A good way to help keep warm is to pedal all the time. Hmmm now guess which bike I'll be riding .

I know a lot of those roads intimately, the lanes around Cudham, Downe, and Tatsfield are very nice.

Today's ACC CR was fairly uneventful for me other than the fact that:

a) I put on my winter gear and it was nowhere near as cold as was forecast so I cooked.
b) I must have left my legs at home as everything seemed a bit harder today ( ) without any logical explanation.

The run out was reasonably smooth. Although some of us are happy to lead a group all the way round it doesn't take in to account that others may want to lead for a while too, so I do tend to call rotations on the basis that it might keep more happy than unhappy. Today we did longer stints up front so everyone could have a good go up front and then called double rotations to keep sliding through the group. Seemed to work okay so maybe something to continue with.

The only thing of note on the way back was the squeaky bum moment on the descent after the church climb where a van decided to brake fairly hard and stop to turn right, without the benefit of working brake lights or indicators. I was like a camel in a sandstorm for the next few minutes.

PS. I forgot to mention in the cafe but don't forget the Start Racing talk in the Half n' Half this coming Thursday from 8pm. Come along for a beer anyway.

Well, my group had a classic incident today - perhaps I shouldn't mention it. My group - what do you reckon?

It was very tough out there today. I rode up from East Grinstead this morning and all the way to Coulsdon I kept thinking that my rear brake must have been on as it was very hard. Think it must have been the wind. The training group was called, but got cancelled due to lack of takers, so went with the 19's. Keith punctured just after the motorway turn off so we stopped and waited and waited and waited for him to fix it. Thankfully the group waited and we got going again.

Up the Reigate steps and Kevin led us up, I went around him towards the top but had no one else on my wheel. When I got to the lights they were green so I thought I would just keep going and see if I could catch up with one of the other groups that had overtaken us when we were fixing Keith's wheel. Just after the little river bridge towards Leigh I caught up with one of the groups, they decided to take a different route, so I thought I would wait for the rest of my original group and go the normal way.

They soon came around the corner and we were off again. We kept it pretty steady, Stu was sitting in not wanting to overdo it after all the time he has had off. Keith, Kevin, Nick a guy with tri bars and myself were doing our fair share of turns. As we came to the Rusper drags Keith started to inject a bit of pace, and as we could see Adam's group ahead we started to chase. We overtook their group just before Rusper and then it was just Keith, Kevin and myself on the hill before the dual carriageway.

Kevin attacked the hill very early at the bottom and got a good gap, but Keith and I just left him to it and he soon burnt out and we came flying past him halfway up. I kept the pace up high and Keith tried to come around me at the top but I just managed to hold him off, although it felt bliming hard.

Waited at the dual carriageway for any other stragglers and then we had 5. Sergio and a guy in Purple whose name escapes me joined us. We had a good through and off, although soon lost Mr purple. Keith made me suffer in the run up to the sprint, he got a good gap on me as he came past, I recovered a little behind Sergio and then went after Keith but he had too big a gap and took the win easily.

Quick cuppa and chat and then headed back toward South Nutfield for a bacon and sausage sarnie with my mate Damian and then a chilly extra 15km home. The wind today really took it out of me, am knackered.
