Majorca training: April 2009 IS GO!

Postby huw williams » Mon Nov 24, 2008 3:26 pm

Just a quick heads up to see who’s interested.

A couple of us are doing a trip to Majorca in the first week of April - primarily aimed at some of the riders I’m coaching, but I don’t see why it shouldn’t be thrown open to everyone else in the club, the more people the better.

Dates are 1st to 7th of April 2009 (includes the weekend before easter)
Hotel is Pionero in Santa Ponsa which will cost around £125 per person (2 sharing, b&b for 7 nights)
Flights should be around £100 including bike costs

We have plenty of experience of trips to this location and know all the best routes etc so it’s a case of turn up and ride your bike on superb roads every day for a week.

More details will follow but if you could post here if you’re at least interested so we can get some idea of numbers

Ta

Huw

I'm interested.

Found a great new "must-do" road last year; one that even Monty with his encyclodedic knowledge of the island had not done before  . It's like Sa Calobra but even twistier; you look over the edge of a cliff and can't believe that there's a road going from where you're standing to the village directly below you.

Interested, so long as someone can cope with the thought of sharing with me .

I will be there 26 April, with 40+ members of SWRC, my second claim membership and lbased in Puerto Polensa. My guess is that anyone could join the A B or C rides but in any case there is a daily local ride from Tollo's cafe which is on the front. I will in fact be there the following week but with my wife and we will rent a car and do some gentle walking.

Is that an age bracket, a chest size or the number of riders???

OK we'll leave this until the end of the week to see who's interested before committing

Do people tend to take their own bikes? I saw there's a place in PP that rents out DA-equipped Telekom-replica Giants with triples for about €170 or so a week.

People do take their own bikes mostly but Joyce hired an excellent Cervelo there once so I'm sure you'd be fine

Huw, I think Joyce's hire bike was actually an Orbea, but anyway it was a rather tasty carbon jobbie. We did have to convince the guy in the shop that this old lady really did know how to ride a racing bike and didn't want one of his hybrids with a basket on the front. He was a bit upset by putting pedals with toe-clips and straps on it though.

Anyway, I digress; Dombo, there's a hire shop right opposite the Pionero hotel in Santa Ponca.

Well, life's full of surprises. I suggested we take our family Easter break in Mallorca next year and was greeted with " Why don't you go out a few days early and so some cycling stuff and we'll join you for a week?"

This qualifies me as a 'maybe' at least :) .

Is that just £125 b&b for the whole week? Sounds like a bargain to me. I'm definitely intersted, had a week out there in May this year and the riding was simply awesome.

Will need to run it by Mrs E, and may even have to offer her the chance to tag along too if that's ok.

Huw, I am in negotiations. Could you post the exact location so I can see other places etc as I may stay for 2 weeks, one cycling and one with the family.

Cheers

Marek....
