Club Run Report 22nd Nov

Thanks everyone for waiting for my puncture repair. I'd hit what felt like 1/2 a house brick and the tyre didn't stand a chance. I reckon, when it's that cold, and there's plenty of riders to tag on to later, that the whole group doesn't need to wait around getting cold.

Like Marek said, nobody seemed to want to come and play on a "Training Group" ride. The ensuing "19's" ride started well at an appropriate pace, but once the Rusper drag started the competetive spirit came into play. Five of us waited for 10 minutes at the thru-and-off lay-by in case others wanted to regroup, but I guess the rest must have joined the large 18's group.

Hey, you had the pleasure of using my mini track pump, and the words of encouragement, like 'hurry up you slow t@sser' and 'move it, you'll never get a job with Mclaren's pit crew' must have helped.

Mine report is quite short! Arrived quite late to avoid predictable ribbing about service costs - no such luck! Went with 18b which got larger and larger as we waited to set off. Initial pace comfortable but went quickly up the steps and I found myself struggling to keep pace. It settled after that we followed Marks metronome pace which seemed quite quick. I did a reasonable turn on the front and kept pace throughout. Colin asked for a lead out for the sprint and through the final lanes I held off until the sharp right hander then went to the front, eventually a few went round me and Colin got it without too much effort.

On the return went part of the way with Steve and Bridget but got to the church as the train was leaving. Susie and myself got caught out at the TLs and worked together to get back on. On the drag I managed to hold on to the selection (just) but got caught behind a few dropping off and having to go round drained me - I then became an honourary member of the fixie 3 (oh yes I forgot to mention Mark's 32mph down hill on his fixie - fast) and eventually this and the lead group united at the halfway TLs. Brian always looked strong speeding off the front. We had a chilly coffee at Coulsdon and a reasonably early bath.

Just managed to get my cadence meter working - Polar instructions do my head in but this is now a 2009 distraction.

Have to go to GBs on Monday for a front wheel spoke for the Specialized

Tomorrow looks too cold for me and my Colnago!

Just realised its exactly a year to the day that I did my very 1st club run with the Agreeables. I'd just like to say a big thanks to all for all the friendliness, encouragement, help and laughter I've had in the club runs over the last year and for making cycling more enjoyable than I could ever of imagined.

One more than if I hadn't turned up. Cafe was packed, so it must have been the usual 90+, but I didn't count.

I went out with the 17s today, a group that just seemed to grow and grow. It was a little untidy to start with, but settled down after the Reigate steps.

It seemed like we were going very well through the lanes, and I couldn't really work out why - it's not like there were any superstars sandbagging - then we turned left after the Rusper descent, and the reason hit me in the face. We'd had a lovely tailwind.

Natter in the cafe, then a select group back through Leigh (If they want us to pronounce it like they do, why don't they spell it Lie?). It was clear Roy was struggling with the headwind, so I played towtruck for much of the way back. Roy mentioned that I provided more shelter than Andrew. I don't understand why.

Didn't count Sean, but a lot at CSS and a very crowded cafe.

Yes, thanks for the great tow, Grahame, sorry I had such WInter Legs! You are both v. steady pacers, but you do offer more to hide behind than Andrew.

Outward bound went better (maybe something to do with an easy wind ... I spent as much time as anyone up front, maybe unwisely. But, in view of recent unfriendly weather, a much better clubrun weatherwise than expected.

i felt pretty frail the next day, so i did nothing until today and just did an hour on the turbo at an easy pace, will do an hour tomorrow (but outside) and see how it goes.

im going back to the doctors again tomorrow, as there still feels something not right with my throat....
