Pilates

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Due to pre-booked holiday stuff.

I'm unable to attend this date. Wednesday night @ 8.15 for 8.30 start on 17th December 2008.
Anybody want to give it a go for a one off session/tester in the ACC clubhouse in Addiscombe?

Yours for the face value on the ticket of £7.50. You will love it, Adam is a very good teacher.

Well, this is getting ridiculous. Once again I'm not going to be able to make this tonight.

Long and very boring story, but building work we're having done on our flat is running over, and until it's finished we're falling on the mercy of our more hospitable friends. Having deselected those who would object to having dinner disrupted and being woken up three times a night, as well as those who don't drink during the week (freaks  ), we've been left in locations that make getting back from work and then making it over to Croydon impractical as well as undesirable.

So - once again, my apologies. If anyone wants to take my place tonight, please feel free - no charge and gratis, natuurlijk.

Enjoy the class - hope to see you all next week.

(Adam, I've still got a cheque with your name on it. If you prefer, I can transfer the money over to you - just PM me your sort code and a/c number, etc.)

My place at pilates tonight is spare if anyone wants it. I got airlifted off a Welsh hillside on Saturday with a broken ankle. :( It's been plated back together but I'm not allowed to put any weight through it for 6 weeks. I asked Adam if he thought it would be OK for me to just do the sit-ups...but he pointed out that even that needs feet flat on the floor to stabilise the pelvis...so until I've been to fracture clinic and checked whether that would be OK my pilates place is available.

Oh no Tamar.

Big hugs for you, I do hope it was a carbon plate so it's not going to slow you down.
Good luck on your speedy road to recovery.

Flower, grapes and chocolate. That's just a small list of things I won't be getting you

Get well soon. All the best, Marky Mark

No session next week -10th December as it is the AGM - which I know you are all dying to attend and 17th is the final one of this session.

Doug is in talks with Adam about continuing through Jan.

Best wishes T  - I guess you're not the most tranquil patient

I will work out how many spare mats we may have for the 17th. They will then be offered up for people to pay for a one off try it you might like it session. Marky Mark and Tamar won't be there so we should have at least two.

For 2009, the current class will be asked if they want to retain their mat (in blocks of 8 sessions) and then any spares will be offered up. The 09 season starts on the 7th January.

More when I get it

You're right Paul, I am not a tranquil patient at all. It is very frustrating. By the time I've got up, dressed and downstairs, I'm knackered and my ankle's throbbing so I have to lie on the sofa with foot up...but I can't concentrate on telly or even read a book...and I don't know why as normally I can waste loads of time doing either! So I decide to be productive and do some laundry, but then by the time I've hauled myself back upstairs and found a rucksack to put the laundry in, I'm knackered and my ankle's throbbing so I have to lie on the bed, etc, before hauling the laundry down to the washing machine... So yesterday all I managed to achieve was a taxi ride to the doctor to get a referral to fracture clinic and get some laundry done...and that took the entire day! And then I tried to feed the guinea pigs when Keith was out stretching with you lot but I was tired & stumbled & nearly fell over, which scared the cr*p out of me so I promised Keith I would rest today.

So I did for a bit...and then I did a sort of version of pilates this morning - leg raises and stuff, and some sit ups with my legs supported up on the sofa so I could keep pelvis still without stressing my ankle. But I felt a bit weird and had to just lie still for a bit. :(

I'm trying to get all the trophies labelled up but can't concentrate. I blame the drugs. Anyhow, I will email you and Mr Hemming separately about those later today. Going to get some lunch now then have a little rest so I can report to Keith I've been good.

I hope to be at pilates on 17th.

I eel for you - sounds the same as the time I had my bad encounter with a motorbike and smashed my leg (broken in 5 places  ). I spent some time watching daytime TV, then wrapped up all the Xmas presents for all the family etc - 105 in total - so sad that I counted each one!!.

The trouble was to get upstairs, had to sit on them and bun up and down - a bugger rushing for the toilet :!:

I got so frustrated that I couldn't weight-bear at all, that I hired a wheelchair to get out and about (I didn't qualify for an NHS one  ) and that was really really really hard work. I used to get round to see my Mum and Dad, and occasionally into Croydon - but couldn't get on the buses, and some of the kerbs weren't lowered then.

Then I was able to walk with crutches which again was tyring, but easier getting about than a chair.

Finally back on the bike after 6 weeks. 800m at 10mph was far enough to start with  Gradually built up distance and speed, but leg was still painful all season. Eventually rode the ECCA 12 in August - and completed a PB!!!!!! so the enforced rest did me good.

Yeah, I have to bum up and down stairs too. I can manage to hop up shallow steps with a rail, but our stairs our steep, with slippy wooden treads, open risers that do my vertigo no good and a handrail that disappears half-way up. Keith has demonstrated how easy it is to go up and down on sticks...but I did remind him (somewhat grumpily) that he doesn't have a broken ankle or vertigo, so he sensibly dropped the topic.

It is possible yes. Can you either pm me or drop a note here to let me know if you want a mat this coming Wednesday? Club room 8.30 prompt start. Cost is £7.50
