Top Croydon Restaurant

Postby Michelle » Fri Dec 05, 2008 10:00 am

Last night I went to the BEST restaurant I have been to in a long long time, and had the best food I have tasted in years.

I thought you guys ought to know. There are so many restaurants in Croydon, that it is sometimes hard to know where to go unless you have a recommendation. The place?

Albert's Table, 49b and c South End Croydon, right near Butlers.

http://www.albertstable.co.uk/

The woodpigeon wellington starter was a wonderful, woodpigeon breast with pate and cooked in a light flaky pastry to order. Other notables were the pork loin (the pig must have been angelic to taste this good) and the beef; the sea bream was the best fish tasted since a trip to NZ, and that's saying something. The chocolate fondant sweet was almost transendental. Along with an extensive wine list ranging from normal restaurant prices - but excellent wines - up to grand cru's and other extraordinary vintages. Great service and friendly staff, really beautiful surroundings. In all it was a fabulous evening.

I would like to share this experience with you out of purely selfish motives, as this place deserves to be supported, nurtured, eaten and drunk at by all ACC members and their friends and family. I would hate to see it disappear in Credit Crunch Croydon.

Enjoy!

So you had the woodpigeon, pork, and the beef, and the sea bream, and a dessert.

Were you a bit hungry :?:

Michelle, your link doesn't work (well not on my pc anyway)

I've been there too, had lunch there with the misses after we'd been to Butlers. It really is a nice place and the food was top notch with service to match. :D

What's your schedule Andy?

Regalinos - club run - pine cafe - club run return - Regalinos - Albert's Table. You'll need somewhere decent for dinner of course, why not try Le Cassoulet in South Croydon and collect the set :D

Well, I didn't have all those things but it was a friendly table and everyone let their food be tasted by everyone else.

I wasn't hungry when I left. But I wasn't really uncomfortably stuffed either, and I can eat A LOT! So I think portions were just right.

I can still taste the melting chocolate middle fondant. It was beautiful and creamy, but the taste left your mouth in about one minute, so it wasn't overpowering at all. It just meant you ate some, then put your spoon down and waited until your palate cleared and then you could get another hit. As part of that sweet was a chocolate cake made with beer - nearly the most astonishing thing I have every tasted. And also included was a creamy smooth chocolate mousse, more like an aerated cake mixture. Oh and don't forget the mandarin sorbet which cut beautifully through the whole lot. In all it was such a sublime experience, it took 20 mintues to eat that sweet. I never wanted it to end

Thanks Michelle, looks amazing value too.

I wonder if they'd do that pork pie as a main?

Works OK on my Mac. But then, like Campag, they are superior
How's that for forging controversy from a nice friendly post? However, I shall certainly put Albert's on my list for a visit soon, Michelle.

Great shout Michelle.. Lunch there on Saturday was top notch. I had the beef rump, which was melt in the mouth stuff, and i'm told the roast cod and the pork belly were equally good. Great food, great wine, great service, great price. And close enough to roll myself into GBs afterwards, what's not to like :D
