Early season sporting TT's

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Yeah sure Hillingdon and Hog Hill (Redbridge Cycle Centre). You either ride slightly off the back of the bunch for the whole race or you try to ride off the front of the bunch until you're caught. Then recover and go again. Don't forget your stop watch to monitor improvements. :D :D :D

Depends how early you want to start really and how far you want to travel!!!

End of February if you want to start early is the Redhill Sporting that starts and finishes just outside Dorking. . It's about 15/18miles long depending I think. Sporting means there are hills in it :D A couple of weeks after that, one of my favourites is the East Surrey Hardriders, just under 30 miles long. You usually get some good names riding. Starts and uses on the some of the roads that the clubrun uses but also goes down the A24 to just outside Horsham and back round. There is a stinker of a hill on the way back. Really enjoyable, one of my early season aims this year is to try and crash the top 10.

After that you have some Southern Counties events which are also good fun then you really from about April start on the faster courses. If sporting courses are your thing they are on during the year if you are prepared to travel eg Rudy Project and Jon and Mr G try the ECCA SPOCO.

Get a hand book from Jon when the order comes in or bump this nearer the time and I am sure I/we can sort you out some races.

Looking forward to it already and it's only December :D

Carl, I haven't ordered them yet. Add your name to the "CTT Handbooks" thread in the General section so I don't forget.

I've started with the SCCU 21 in the last couple of years but will probably try and do a few earlier ones this year as a way of trying to sharpen the old pins up a bit.

With the Catford HOA and Old Ports Reliability the first two weekends in Feb I'll probably be looking at the following ones:

Saturday 14 Feb 17.48 GS/985 7.00 1400 Central Sussex CC
Sunday 22 Feb 18 GS/478 7.00 0900 H Redhill CC (Sporting)
Sunday 01 Mar 23 GS/194 8.00 0830 SC Sussex CA (Hard Shell Helmets Compulsory)
Sunday 08 Mar 29.9 GS/491 7.50 0800 East Surrey RC (Hardriders)
Sunday 15 Mar 21 GS/334 7.50 0900 SCCU (CDCA Sporting)
Sunday 15 Mar 15.6 GS/895 8.00 1000 East Sussex CA
Saturday 21 Mar 10 G10/46 7.50 1400 Southern Counties CU (Sporting)(SPOCO SE)
Sunday 22 Mar 25 G25/44 7.50 0900 Southern Counties CU (Sporting)(SPOCO SE)

I've done the SCCU ones in previous years but am thinking about putting the others in and riding out to them (if they aren't too far away). That way I can get some decent miles in and also get a bit of a workout with the TT - I struggle to push myself too hard unless its a race so this should work out a way of getting the best of both worlds. I'll just ride the race on whatever bike I ride out on (fixed/winter/best bike) as I'll be treating them as training rather than chasing a time and using the most aero kit I have. The SCCU ones are all easily ridable to, I'll just have to work out where the courses are for the others to see how practical it is once I get the handbook.

The 2-up on 29th March caught my eye so I might be on the lookout for a partner nearer the time.

The SPOCO SE is a great series. I tried my hand at it last year but didn't complete all the events needed to qualify for a certificate - largely due to naff weather and cancellations and then not wanting to forfeit other races to fill in the SPOCO gaps. I won't be doing it this year as I found that quite a lot of the courses are more East than near us so involve a bit of a journey to get there. Hats off to Jon for doing the series as it isn;t the easiest to co-ordinate the races in to your schedule and then the mount of travelling involved means some very early starts.

Anyone know where the GS Stella tt is held on the 31st jan/1st Feb?,i can't work out the secret code without a handbook
The kingston wheelers on the 8th feb might fit in but as andrew sais it clashes with the old ports which i want to do again

You mean you don't know where the GS/989 is

G stands for "london South, hence in our district
S stands for "special" i.e.non standard distance
989 is the code for .....I'll let you know when I get my handbook...it's at home

I'll give you a shout when we get the start sheets so we can try and work out a suitable meet up time if you want.
