Good to see that they were rewarded (all 3 awards) for their superb achievements when so many of the big sports deliver such dross most of the time.

It has had a big impact on the way people view us out on the road too  . I may have become a wizard over the weekend as I was invisible today.

This morning I got a nice friendly pat on the shoulder...from the wing mirror of an ambulance  . Only gentle and no harm done but I suggested (very calmly in a normal voice) that perhaps he might want to indicate and look before moving next time. He just hurrumpffed and adopted a Daily Mail stance telling me we (I think he means you as well) are all just a bloody nuisance etc etc.

Funny moment on the way home though. I was coming down Anerley Hill and fortunately just started slowing down as I was approaching a red light, still doing about 30mph at that stage though, when someone stepped out in to the road in front of me. I short, sharp, loud, "Oi!" and I steered round him. The funny bit was the way he looked, I've never seen anyone so scared in my life. He completely froze rigid apart from a slight quiver at the end of his arms  . Change of underwear due there I think, and he may even walk the 20 yards or so to the traffic lights to cross next time.

That makes 2 of us then. I had a great one this morning. I'm slowing behind a queue of traffic following a car about 3 feet back, woman in green audi comes along side me then starts to pull into me and pushes me hard up against the kerb. I shout a warning, she carries on till I have get on the pavement to get out of the way. I went round to her window to enquire as to what the hell she was doing. She replies "I was in her way and I should learn how to ride a bike properly".

She's now minus one door mirror as I took it clean off with one punch....winter gloves are great, keep your hands warm and protect them when punching things :D Must say I felt better for doing it.

Mrs I asked who she was and, when I told her, said that she was "a pretty girl".

"Oh", I said, "I hadn't noticed". I think I got away with it too  .

Cheers Ant, thats another car that probably will just drive straight into and kill one of us next time. Taking someones wing mirror off isnt exactly helping the cause is it.

On another note, Dave Brailsford coach of the year? You must be joking.

Great to see that Matt Seaton clearly uses the ACC Forum as a source for ideas for his Newpaper column. His views on Nicole were obviously lifted from my earlier post.

That's fantastic, Ant! I've only ever managed to take off a door mirror with my elbow and that was completely unintentional on my part! 'Mother-hens' in their middle-class wagons can be the most irksome drivers of the them all. I suspect you've done us all a favour - she has learned that there are consequences of having a disraceful driving attitude.

Must say I disagree with your take on Ants actions. The woman already was intent on forcing Ant from the road and her actions should not be without consequence. So if Ant had ignored her how would that have helped? All she would have learned was that she can do these things and get away with it and maybe then step up to ramming and killing (bit of a jump by the way) believing her actions will not have any consequences for her. She can hardly feel agrieved or rightous giving that she clearly admitted her actions were intentional.

Mmm that's a tough one. I wouldn't do it if only for fear of getting shot at (and it's a bit childish. But you do tend to go in "survival mode" when in danger). Usually I just give them the stare and try and annoy them by stopping in front of them/riding very slowly/getting in their way. How long for depending on the blatantness of their poor driving :)

What's the subject again? Ah yes. Don't disagree with too much in there http://www.bikeradar.com/blogs/article/ ... view-19677

So criminally damaging a vehicle which has actually caused no physical harm to me is ok?

If that is the lesson Addiscombe Cycling Club wishes to teach, so be it.

[quote="Sean Hogan - 何祥"]If you were placed in physical danger then as a reaction I think it is perfectly okay

So what are the Police going to say to that?

''Would you mind accompanying me to the station please, sir'' I suspect.

Sean, I do.

It's just that if I took a wing mirror off every car that cuts in close to me, there'd be a lot of broken wing mirrors lying around causing punctures for everyone. It's not going to achieve anything other than to further antagonise the driver. What's your defence gonna be when they come after you and knock you off?

I just think that there are quite a lot of people with a kind of self righteous cycling warrior stance, that think that doing this sort of thing is ok, and it's not. Yes, cars generally treat cyclists badly, as you know, I know this only too well. Also, the Police seem generally disinterested with doing anything about this. Thats not to say taking matters into our own hands is going to help. The roads would generally be a lot safer if everyone chilled out a bit and realised that we're all just trying to get somewhere.

Think of it like being Ghandi, but on a bike... :)

I forgot the old favourite ... banging on their vehicle

Two small knocks to make them realise you are actually there

One big knock hoping they will think it's an impact on their car :)
