2009 Race Calendar

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

What is going on with the Surrey League at the moment. May, June, July and August there are a total of 2 weekend road races unless you want to do a stage race. There seems to be a lot going on during the week which is great for those that can get to them after work. Real shame that a lot of the weekend races seem to have disappeared, especially in the summer months when you would want to be out in the sunshine.

Cheers

Time trial, this is the time of year to be getting up early in the morning and getting some TT pb's in.
Real early season for the 3rd cat RR win then progress up to 2nd's in time to kick butt round Bletchingly

Hmmm, unfortunately Santa did not bring me a TT bike for Xmas so I don't think that will be on the agenda this year. Think I will be doing the SERRL, they seem to have some good races on most weekends, I will just need to lose the large wheel of lard around my waistline so I can get up those darn Kent hills. Unfortunately I won't be here for the ACC road race as will be sunning myself (i mean training) in Majorca. Anyway, whose idea was it to have the ACC road race on the Bletchingley course, could it be Mr Tunnell as he is going to be the commissairre. What a horrible man.

Cheers

Marek

Once again you have failed to read Keith's post in full.

It does say "provisional calendar"

I was in two minds as to putting an incomplete calendar on the web site. But as so many riders wanted to see some sort of calendar put up, I thought I would.

Perhaps I shouldn't have bothered.

Hey, Glyn, don't you worry about Mr Grumpy up there.

Does that mean that there will be a load more weekend races?????

That would be fab.

As Glyn pointed out to me at the AGM, all the open road races fall in this period, so you can hardly say there's no road racing on...

Hey Glyn,

What do you mean 'once again'. Anyhow, my mistake, look forward to seeing what else you will have on offer for the summer months when the provisional calendar becomes more official.

Glyn, I seem to remember a couple of years ago Sigma Sport ran/sponsored a road race series as well. Do you know if that is still going and if so where it is advertised.

Cheers

First of all, the Surrey League do a great job promoting/organising/helping with lots of road races and, as Adam wisely points out, there would be little point putting on a lot of races during a period when there are a lot of non-SL races on, and many people are away on summer holidays. Apart from anything else, its important for Glyn to have a break, and he still has the significant burdens of organising the Jaunts and the Revolutions. Its very important to bear in mind that the Surrey League relies on clubs to organise races, so asking a question like 'what is going on with the Surrey League' is not helpful.

Second, those races which made up the Sigma-sponsored series all still exist (as far as I'm aware) - Wally Gimber/Dulwich Primavera, Bec CC RR, Les Ingman, London Dynamo Road Race, Cycle Kingdom Spring Classic, Toachim House Grand Prix, Barry Elcome midweek RR and the Divs. Some, if not all of these made up the series, and all are happening in 2009.

Johnnyha,

I don't think that many people go away in May and June and I think with the Euro where it is this year I reckon there maybe a lot less people going away. Maybe there are more races elsewhere at the weekends in the summer, I will have to look out for them.

Thank you for pointing out the individual races, I was wondering if there was a specific website that showed these as I seem to remember they used to be on one for Sigma Sport a few years ago. Do they still sponsor those races or is it something different now?

You don't need to preach to me about the great job that the Surrey League do, I am well aware.
