Track Day at Calshot

Postby jackiems » Sun Feb 06, 2005 1:15 am

Being a regular on the Saturday club run and what with the recently introducted speed dating routine, I have spoken to fellow members, who like myself, are keen to have a go on the track.

Ben and I did a track session at Newport over Christmas and really enjoyed it and want to do more so as a result, I rang Calshot velodrome in Southampton to enquire about hiring the track out for members who fancied having a go.

It costs £180 for a three hour session and a max of 10 people can attend this session - so with my fab maths skills I work that out to be £18 each (if there are 10 of us who wish to go). This would include coach instruction and bike hire. The bikes have foot strap pedals so if you want to have clip in pedals you need to bring your own and swap them over for the session.

The dates they have available for 1.30 - 4.30 pm slots is 20th March or 24 April but I need to act quickly in case the dates go.

Would anyone be interested in doing a track session on either of these dates?

If so, please let me know by 13 Feb (when I'm back from Mallorca) and if there's enough people interested, I'll book the session.

Cheers,

Jackie

Good morning Jackie & Ben,
I would be available to go on both dates but the sooner the better :D . So your fab Maths skills means £18:00 per person. Is this for adults ONLY as I would like to take the kids for a track session but would like to let other members have the places's first. it is not essential at the moment as I could take them another time.

Thank you

Nick of the TPS

I'm interested. Anyone else?

Riding the Calshot track is great. On the previous trips we've had to Calshot we had complete fixed wheel novices and they were riding round the steep bankings with confidence in very little time. So don't be put off if you've never ridden on the track or ridden fixed wheel before. If you ride the track at Calshot then you can ride tracks anywhere.

Is it possible to do beginner days at Herne Hill - presumably after it stops snowing - does anyone know? I fancy a try out rather than anything serious... but would put £20 in a pot to go.

Herne hill is temp shut due to the Dulwich estate and council having prob's.

Cheers Nick.

Apologies I missed the 13th Feb deadline but I presume from lack of replies this isn't going to happen at Calshot April? I'm free then and would put £20 down to go.

can i just butt in here...

calshot can host far more than 10 people for a session!
the prime session have around 25 people at theirs, with around 10 people using the track at any one time.
riding calshot for 3 hours solid is probably too much for most, what is sensible and brings the costs down is to have two groups... those who have ridden the track before and are competent... and those who havent.

that way its far more entertaining workout when you are surrounded by similar ability people. its much better to have a 1.5 hour full on session where you are surrounded by similar ability people than a full 3 hours surrounded by people of contrasting ability. plus its safer.
so you have two groups, 15 mins on, 15 mins off.. etc etc. alternatiing between experienced and non experienced or kids

Calshot is the only UK track I dont have accreditation for coaching at at this moment in time, so I cant offer to coach this one. ( it saves on hiring a coach for the day normally. )

If you want to Hire newport track the cost is similar to that of calshit...
and I CAN coach at that one. plus its warmer and bigger and much more fun!!!
or... you could come along on the 6th to the VCL session at newport. only £13 i think. guests are welcome.

I dont get to check this forum very often anymore, so if anyone has any comments or suggestions then drop me a line directly via email
