Who's Riding in the Snow ?

Postby Nick » Tue Feb 22, 2005 2:36 pm

Just watched weather report And weather warning for kent/surrey from today onwards.

So I take it that saturdays RIDE will still go ahead. :D .

Maybe not on a road bike but I'm sure I can dig out my mountain bike and Ian Munnery and others, Surely know a route or Two?. Ian Being a part time off roader and he also knows all the roads/tracks around the surrey.
:!: Unless he still is recoverying from the Flu  :!:

All be that I may not ride the weekend but we have 4 Children so I will have fun either way. Just waxed the runners on the sledge and thinking of buying the Dog a Harness to pull them along :D .

Snow or No Snow thats the question?

snow

Postby Paul on the Pearson » Tue Feb 22, 2005 4:24 pm

I think saturdays weather is meant to be sunny and a scorching 4 degrees according to the BBC site. We might have to knock thursdays ride on the head though as its meant to be snow and sleet with a MAX temp of 0 degrees centigrade!!

As long as the roads don't have ice on them then I will be riding. The snow is mainly on the side of the road, not actually on the road, therefore no problem. I remember a couple of years ago riding in freezing weather with snow on the sides of the road up the top of Crockham Hill, it was fantastic character building stuff.

Mind you I also remember a very cold day cycling up Box Hill and hitting a patch of ice on one of the switchbacks which was covered by trees and hence the ice had not melted, I remember skidding along the floor after that and almost busting my shoulder.

If it is really cold and icy then we could do a main road ride and avoid those roads with more ice risk. Last year we did this after an ice warning on the usual club run route. I remember because one group ignored the warning and the whole lot of them ended up skidding on their bums. Think GBs were happy as lots of bike repairs were required.

I reckon I will be out though.

Cheers

Marek...

2 Mentions of an un-named member in one reply

Don't worry Nick, from what I hear you don't even need ice to end up on the floor.

It's not me that has problems staying upright it's others who don't like me that way and KNOCK me down. (Maybe it's something I said.)

But if you might be reffering to the little drink I had on saturday/sunday I was upright all night/morning ( Thank you).

Ice!? Character building- moi?
Shurely shome mishtake.
If its icy I wont ride early or I'll offroad it, I am willing to take a mtb ride out over the downs on my usual routes-mucho muddy at the moment.
I dont have the flu Nick -just a hacking cough which makes my voice like Barry Whites! Jo love it, no training for me this week as I am trying to get my immune system functional, 3rd bout of illness this year
