Winter Series Races

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Just this minute renewed my licence so it'll be off to Hillingdon soon to get a couple of races under my belt and hope for a good result or two before the season kicks off proper.

Ouch, just cost me £41 for the racing licence with an extension to my membership so they run concurrently, I guess I'd better get out to Hillingdon fast!

You know the license is valid all year Sean, perhaps we'll see you at some other events too?

Do these count?

Hoping to get over to Hillingdon this sat now the hilly rides off. Getting a lift with Serge as long as he's feeling a bit better and can race. Will have to blag my way in as still not had my licence through yet. As you've said Andrew I'm going quite well at the mo so fancy giving it a good go.

I was planning do a few of these early season races, but my "plan" had a fundamental and very basic flaw in it which was that I hadn't been on the bike much, but have been trying to rectify that by doing a bit of training over the christmas break, even bought a turbo trainer as well as the rollers so will hopefully be making my debut around the end of Jan.
Anyone going to Hillingdon tomorrow and prepared to give me a lift? Will pay for petrol.

I am off that way tomorrow with Ant so if you want a lift, no sweat. Ant and I start at 12.30 pm so I was thinking of leaving Croydon at about 10 am to head off to Sutton and pick him up. That should give us time to sign on and warm up. I have track pump, tools etc so if you can get yourself and a bike over to croydon for that time the lift is yours. PM me if your interested. :?:

(you dont warm up on a turbo trainer do you ? as that could be an issue !)

No Sean, team work...when I go off the front you just fall over and block the track, you may need to roll around a bit to make it look convincing...
Well lets put it this way, it was very, very very cold and I just couldn't hack it today. At least I talked a good talk

And walked the walk Sean. I can't believe they even had racing today it was so frosty and icy around these parts, so even taking the start line is to be commended.

The next race should be easy after today as you'll feel happier sitting in the middle of a bunch without having to worry about all the potential slips and take outs that could have happened with either the conditions or people being overly nervous in them.

Good to see you with a number on your back Sean, nice one.

Wasn't expecting much from today having been sick over Christmas. That said, I didn't feel as bad as I thought I might. I opened up the hostilities before even a lap had been completed.

As you can see, along with one of my new team mates, Josh. But it was short lived. If I'm honest, it felt hard work. But then as you can see and as your probably aware, it was effing cold. So after that I settled back into the bunch for the majority of the race, I loved being back into a fast moving bunch, shoulder to shoulder. Over 3 months since my last race, I've missed it. Even with the conditions, I did end up enjoying the race.

By the last quarter of the race I was feeling a bit more lively, so was sure to mark the usual suspects. As a team, we had no team tactics, we were just out to test ourselves. Of course, we are not London Dynamo, so there was a good degree of team work at times! Firstly, another team mate Jake made it into the final move of the day. Which was shut down soley by Russell Painter of the mighty Paragon. So it was to be a sprint. I kind of fancied it myself, but wasn't sure how I'd fare. So I found Josh's wheel, and made sure we both made into a decent position in which to contest the sprint. After having to shout to him to move out and round some dead wood to avoid getting swamped, he had the inside line on me. So while I was having to power around the right we ended up side by side with about 300 to go. We both got out the saddle, but as soon as I did I knew I didn't have it. So I moved aside and let him through. Unfortunately he didn't quite use people's draught effectively enough, so didn't quite have the legs for the win. But it was good to see that when the two of us really are working together, we're gonna win.

As you can see, the finish was tight. With Jerone Walters just pipping Chris Moores. Overall then, a good race. I myself was probably somehwere in the 10-20th positions. None of my team have raced yet this winter, so it was great to see we can be so competitive against the guys who have been racing there every week since the beginning of December. I have one more at Hillingdon on the 24th, then an early isolated return to the road for the tradtitional season opening Perfs Pedal Race on the 8th February. Also, I'm just sorting out a new blog at the moment, so stay tuned and that will be the place to go if your interested in the goings on of the best team in the south east  .

Cheers,

Adam
