Sub 7kg Anyone?

Postby Steve B » Fri Jan 09, 2009 11:16 pm

I finished putting my Ridley together last night after a complete strip down and thorough clean ready for the spring, and decided to weigh it as I cldn't remember if I'd done so before. It came in at 16.7lbs (7.5kg), with pedals and botle cage.

Admittedly, thats not super light, but the frame is 1200g, so anyone with a 1kg frame could quite easily get lower than that. All the other bits on the bike are pretty light so the figure of 7.0kg is going to be tough to get down to.

Anyone?

My R3, with Zipp 404 clinchers (what was I thinking?) weighs 7.3kg. But then I do have a UCI weight limit to adhere to huh Rob!! Plus my frame's bigger than yours :P

Yeah but thats a lot of extra material, not just 2cm! It probably adds 100g I reckon.

I'm not sure about a white one being much heavier, I mean the black and red one isn't totally nude carbon is it?

Plus, to me, white is just so much cooler!!

And I don't have super cool lightwight carbon Tubs either unfortunately...

On the Cervelo and Weight Weenies forum a few owners were complaining of the weight of the 08 model being a bit heavier

I know, but they weightweeinies are just totally bloody obsessed. And not many of the really prolific posters really do much riding do they! They spend all their time researching their next lightweight component, then selling their previous ''heavy'' component!!

And moan about the weight of saddles!! Christ, I bet none of them are able to have children judging by some of the saddles they 'use'!

But yeah, still, weight isn't everything...

[quote="-Adam-"]Zipp 404 clinchers (what was I thinking?)

:lol: Didn't various people say tubs for pure racing wheels, but you wanted to be able to fix punctures easier when you were posing on Box Hill with them :lol: . Vanity can be a cruel mistress :P .

I think PVTs Felt would be pretty damn light. Never weighed a bike but I'm happy enough with the weight of mine, Aluminium is light too :wink: . Fixies are always light as they don't weigh the bike down with all that unnecessary gear changing gubbins.

A lot of the weight weenie's are mad as badgers. I've looked at the site a couple of times and they don't use saddle packs and only take one tube, one lever, and the most pitiful pump (because it's light) when they go out. No cages or bottles obviously. They must just ride round the block repeatedly so that they can always walk home if they get a puncture or two, or need a drink :roll: .
