The 'Due to' letter..... GB here we come

Postby Marky Mark » Mon Jan 12, 2009 4:29 pm

Due to the current econonic climate.....................

I feel that there could be a group of midweek rides happening in the near future,
fingers crossed that there won't be too many.

I for one will hear by the end of Feb at the latest if I still have a job, ONE THIRD of my company must go.

Please feel free to add your name to the list if your company is planning cuts and you'll be free to hook up for a few rides during the week.

[quote="Sean Hogan - 何祥"]Sorry to hear that Marky Mark, though as you said you might be in 66% to survive. Fingers crossed.

Cheers Sean, but think of all that cycling time i'll get, turning up for interviews wearing lycra and sweating

Really hope it works out the way you want Marky Mark, the whole waiting process is dead unsettling.

I've just chosen to take redundancy, it was a really difficult decision, but once made I knew it was the right thing for me. I've been sitting on that motorway for 2-3 hours everyday for 13years... need some time off to take stock and do other things like ski, dive, ride my bikes and sleep. I won't start looking for a new job for a few months and will try to fill my time with looking forward and having fun. I'd been thinking about taking a break for a couple of years, seems to me that the best time to do it is when they are willing to give me a lump of cash at the same time :D

I'm up for midweek rides after 23rd Jan, better for me if going South as I'd need to come up from Brighton. Anything up to 18mph ish.

Good luck

I went to the dance last year - redun-dance that is, similar situation to Jane - 13 years of sitting in an office and 1 1/2 hours journey each way every day. Only difference is I didn't look for another job  spent the first 3 months enjoying my freedom, cycling, walking etc. then decided I couldn't face the 9 to 5 lining someone else's pockets so started my own thing, a bit of freelancing for company's I have historically dealt with and then some property and garden maintenance to fill in the gaps- now I'm in charge of my time and income :D

It's not nice waiting for the decision, but whatever the outcome we're all survivors. Look upon it as an opportunity to do something you've always wanted to.

Good luck

Thank's for all the wise words, I have just had to score myself on a questionaire for my company.

 I got 98 ou of 110. I hope that is good enough (not that I care!)

PS how smart is smart for Saturday night at Selsdon (I don't trust Andrew's answer as he was laughing at the time)

If 98 isn't high enough then they must have some seriously high standards, good luck mate.

Well Marky McMark, you could always join Douglas McSnoop and wear a kilt, or would that be too ridiculous?

Count me in from the end of this month or poss mid Feb if I'm lucky. After spending most of my working life working in record shops/entertainment retail it'll be all coming to an end (unless a few contacts linked to HMV come through!). Just a shame I'll only be getting statutory redundancy so no chance to finally go and retrain in a different trade and trust me and the wife to have our first kid in the worst economic situ for flippin' ages......oh and we found out this week it's going to be a boy......time to decorate the spare room with anti-projectile wee in mind doth think!

Anyhow anyone who needs a first rate operator and administrator give me a shout (well after a few weeks off for cycling and all that obviously!)

See you all on Sat :) !

The battle lines have been drawn.

The whole company has a failure of effort, caring, smiles, future promise, etc, etc.

The due to letter is 'due' to land on the welcome door mat by a week Thursday at the latest.

Cheers Jane.

The general feeling is that it'll be hard to get another job as things stand at the moment, and if I do survive this one I don't hold out much for the company as whole. Who want's to stay in a dying company?

But that snow outside looks beautiful in the sunshine. :D
