Ride what you like Andrew, if the rules say you can, why not!

Can I ride a unicycle?

You're right though, there is no level playing field, why else would my doctor cost so much?

Two good ones, like it

Does that happen when you get carried away then Sylv?

Now if you fit front panniers full of bricks would that help or hinder?

You can't say Grahame can't split his chain and then turn up with a disc wheel and a pointy hat.

I thought it would be a good idea to resurrect a traditonal winter club event - a freewheel competition, and bought some zip ties, chalk and a clipboard. 19 fellow agreeables had their cranks strapped up (thanks Grahame for extra straps) or chains removed and sent down Russ Hill....great fun was had by all...

What a weird sensation - sitting on a bike with nothing to do except hope...not seeing anyone round the last bend and slowing down rapidly, my heart sank, and then coming to a stop way short of the others - disc wheels are rubbish (official).

The winner was Grahame Baker - he (and Peter Smith) surpassed everyone by getting back to the cafe  where he was busily refuelling - in training for next years event.

1st Grahame Baker
2nd Peter Smith
3rd Richard Culmer
4th Jon Hemming (first on fixed)
5th Andrew
6th Elliott Merony
7th Phil Nash
8th Paul Dewis
Jane Charlton (first lady)
also
Steve Smith
Del Cobb
Peter Motteram
Andy Webber
Andrew Montgomery
Chris lambert
Andy Spriggs
Dave Dishman
Steve Broomfield
Dominic Barnes

Thanks to ??? for chalk marking and removing zip ties at the bottom of the hill.
I think there should be a weight handicap for next year given who won this year ;-) :D

Oi I had to get to the top of the hill as well - that's a handicap.

Actually, I don't think it's weight itself that's the most important factor (Pete's not a "big bloke" and he came second only by a couple of bike lengths)- I think it's being able to get into a good tuck, and being brave/stupid enough to hold it round the corners.

If it is weight that's important, are we going to have a weight handicap for the hillclimb competitions? - it's definitely important there.
