Inner tube deals?

Postby Will » Mon Jan 19, 2009 11:58 am

My usual favourite http://www.bicyclerubber.com/ seems to have reduced its range to a single product :?

Does anyone have any recommendations for places to buy cheap 700x25 inner tubes in bulk (e.g. packs of 10 or 20).

Have had a look round some of the usual suspects - Parker, Ribble, Probikekit, etc. - but haven't found any enticing deals.

Quality-wise is there much difference between say Specialized or Conti tubes and the 2 for £1.99 ones you get from Decathlon? Also, is it worth patching road tubes or should they just be binned? I have mtb tubes with loads of patches but the higher road pressures worry me slightly.

I've never found any real difference between tubes. As Jon once said (to paraphrase) if it's black and made of rubber it does the job.
With good tyres I find punctures rare so I tend to bin punctured tubes (not very green I know) as I'm lazy. I carry some emergency patches in my saddlebag so I can get home/to bike shop if I get more than 2 punctures in a ride. If you repair them properly (i.e. not with the park stick on things) with a proper puncture repair kit then they are fine to re-use though even at 110psi.

Also Decathlon here. Can't tell much, if any difference between own brand and Michelin, which they also sell. Bit of a hassle to get to but I am probably going one night this week, so let me know if you need any Will...
