Well it's started snowing so it must be time for the new season to kick off.
Ever thought about giving time trialling a go? As a virtual novice last year, I did, and had a great time. It's easy racing and relatively cheap and a good way to race if you get a bit nervous pelting round with 70 other people in a big bunch. The best thing is there is no getting dropped! When you start you only have yourself to beat and if you improve over the course of the year you stand a chance of winning some of the handicap competitions and seeing your name printed in Cycling Weekly (oh the glory of it!).
When things get a bit warmer you will find that many of the races are on dual carriageway courses (flat roads, more traffic, faster times) but the early season events tend to be on more 'sporting' courses.
Two events coming up quite soon where there will be a few other ACCers around:
Surrey Hardriders - 13/3/05 - based on a course which does some of our club run in reverse to Reigate, turns left on the main road to Dorking, up over our club 10-mile TT course (some sections of dual carriageway) and then back through the lanes via Rusper. A 29 mile race where you're likely to be able to compete against some of the country's top time triallers. You may not win but you can see how close you manage to get. Just under 30 miles.
CDCA SPOCO SE - 20/3/05 - two laps of the road race circuit around Bletchingley/Outwood. All single carriageway roads generally rolling with a b****r of a short climb into Bletchingley. 21 miles.
Entering time trials can be a bit mystifying. Generally you have to put an entry in about 2 weeks in advance. If anyone wants to know where to find entry forms (or the details for entering these events) just reply/pm me and I'll let you have the details and any help I can provide.
