Selle SMP Saddles

Postby andrew_phillips » Wed Jan 28, 2009 12:33 am

Anyone tried any of this range of saddles? They are crazy expensive but are supposed to protect your manhood a bit better. I have a Specialized Toupe currently which is well designed for a piece of board, but still a piece of board. Need something with a little more padding and a more effective cut-out I reckon.

Agree with George.
The Fizik Aliante is brilliant for all forms of road riding except TTing.

Saddle choice is a very personal issue and is, I think, one of the few areas where a persnonal recommendation is almost worthless.

You may need to try several before you find the "one" that works for you.

I personally like the original Selle Italia Flite, but I know many who can not get on with it. And I find the Fizik Aliante excrutiatingly uncomfortable.

i think grahame is right, but if you were fairly keen on the toupe you might try the alias which is specialized's next model down the price/lightness/lack of padding/expense scale?

i've just moved from alias to toupe and find them similar shapes, but am hanging on to the alias until my posterior has approved the toupe for all day riding.

[quote="Grahame"]Saddle choice is a very personal issue...

Unless you have exactly the same shape bum, are the same size, weight, build etc as someone else it is a tricky one. Also can be an expensive one as I think only Selle Italia do a try before you buy arrangement. It does mean that quite a lot end up on ebay with hardly any use at all though so always worth a look there.

Yes - don't listen to anyone else when buying saddles or you'll end up like me, almost crying with pain on a CR after everyone said the Fizik Arione was comfortable!

Also, I find that whether a saddle feels comfortable for 5 mins in a shop gives no indication whatsoever on how it will feel after an hour or so!

And how it feels after an hour or so isn't necessarily an indication of how it will feel after two hours or so. As I found out when I did a 50 mile TT on a Selle Italia SLR.

im with george. i did loads of saddle tests with GB's and the aliante is the best saddle i have ever ridden. it cleared up my saddle sore, and stopped all the numbing sensations i thought were normal over the last couple of years....

Stu, are you sure noting riding for ages because you have gone through a poorly stage has cleared up your sore bits!
There could be something in it, I use a Aliante on the turbo and had no probs with it. :)

And what is all day long bum fun, have we had a crossover from another forum?
