Brighton and back

Postby Ian A4size » Sun Jul 03, 2005 9:39 am

Welcome back to the forum first tho- hopefully people will soon get back to posting- welcome to new boy Sean :) as well, i expect you have thought of this already but if you could include it in next weeks digest-people will know its up and running.
Nice long ride out to brighton yesterday with about 16 other riders, skies were a bit ominous at first so that probably kept the numbers down a bit- my breakfast and me thought the pace a little brisk at first and after speaking to monty his breakfast was rumbling as well.
Paul found some really good quiet lanes to go down and up (esp round by ardingley reservoir)- i must admit that half the time i did not know where the hell we were-going thru wivelsfield then pl(tr)umpton, but i knew where i was at the bottom of ditchling! Still i have a lot more miles in me legs and for a fat knacker like me it was not so bad at all- esp after pico veleta and the surrey hills ride a few weeks back.
We managed to confuse al the staff at the beach cafe and we sort of got what some one else had ordered- but it was food and fairly cheap.
for some one who does not like hills Paul took us on what has been my hilliest ride back from brighton that i have ever done! again i did not have a clue where we were, and when we came to a junction- out came the map- yep you guessed it, the way home is always up.
90 odd miles for me yesterday- streched-washed and out the door in 45 mins and off to a Live 8 party home by 1 feeling rather good with a couple of cold drinks inside me.
BTW marek how much duty did you have to pay on your liver when you came thru customs

Forum back on line ... Yipee

Just a huge thats to Paul and for organising the L2B and back yesterday and everyone else for waiting for us for punctures and at the top of the hills ...

Great ride, weather was good and 2 punctures for the year so far, both yesterday ... Apologies if anyone waited after the Church before Merstham, flatted again as I rolled away.

Well hopefully another run before the summer is out, and more interesting sandwiches and backed spuds on the sea front...

One bottle is for Sean the other bottle is yours as long as no one else claims it in the next few days. I will try and drop it off next weekend when I get a free moment.

Cheers

Disappointed I am to have missed what sounds like a great day & ride. I had thought about coming but decided doing the ride and getting up to Hyde Park for the 2pm start was pushing it a bit.
Hopefully the route can be repeated before the end of the summer?

L2B and back

Postby Paul on the Pearson » Mon Jul 04, 2005 11:25 am

Hello to everyone now we're back in forum land.
Just want to say a big thankyou to Paul for organising the Brighton ride on Saturday and his map reading skills which got us there and back via a good hilly route.
As Dithling loomed up before us it all got very quiet, we then took a slightly circutous diversion, approching it from a different angle and was suddenly on it grinding our way up.
A brilliant ride ( clocked up 110 miles door to door)especially as last time I did it with the club last year just after I'd joined I chickined out and got the train back.

Have to agree. Was smashing day out. 102 miles on clock and got home at 4.30 - bang on time for TdF on ITV2. Thanks for the tow back James.

I counted 14 of us out. Thought it was a bit overcast and nippy when I got up so no suncream and 3/4 tights. The tights were a good move when sitting in a stiff breeze on the sea front, but the overcast skies were deceptive as I now have silly white goggle marks on a sunburnt face.

As ever, Mr Tunnell didn't disappoint with his magical mystery tour approach to route planning. Even memory map Munnery was riding unknown territory.

Some lovely descents. 50+mph and a big smile for the speed camera coming into Brighton.
