Slow and steady riders rides

sort of 16ishmph - depends what I can get up to... Seems to be a bit more interest in my rides at the moment.

So on last day of January would a few people care to join me for a ride down to Balcombe and back? Can start wtih the club run and then carry on past Faygate. Should be a cafe or two in Balcombe for lunch and then a mooch back home? Sign up below.

I would like to do this on a regular basis - every week if I can or at least every other week. Different routes, different places, hopefully getting longer and (a bit) faster. Other people can suggest routes and places to go so that we can spread out into new lanes.

How about putting suggestions here and routes in the routes section of the forum?

Hey Amy,
I'm interested in different routes and certainly longer rides to work on the fitness levels. I can’t commit to every alternative ride due to other commitments and having to get back early on some occasions.

Count me in - it'd be good to get more miles in the legs before the Old Ports the week after........it'll be the perfect opportunity to practice my increased vocab on Mark if he signs up as well and as the bike's having a pre-dole service hopfully no 'squeeky' front mech either...hoooray! Right off to find the thesaurus to learn some more words for hole.

Two cafes? I didn't mention more than one. As for pubs, could go completely CTC-style and stop for lunch at one but the only liquid thing I'll have there will be soup (that's if they do it and don't only do 'Sunday' roasts as I know some pubs do on a Sunday at least - that'll be one roast chicken and two sets of knives and forks).

Would definitely be interested at some point but will need to buil d up to I think. Not sure how long this outing would be - any guidance for a newbie about length of ride (miles) and of the trip as a whole if we include the seemingly endless rounds of tea, beer and soup ?? :)

do come along - it won't be that exacting. I'll probably be the slowest, especially on the hills at the moment. These rides are for me to build up my strength and stamina :D We'll probably be back home after mid-afternoon with just the stop for lunch at Balcombe. I hope to increase the distances and maybe the speed as the year goes on.

See how it is on the day? We follow the club route to begin with so people can always chicken out on the way down or there's the train back from Balcombe. Also leave at [color=#FF0000]9.15am[/color]?

By the way, it's great weather for weight loss :wink:

Really icy on my way to work this morning (Coulsdon - Kingswood - Walton on the Hill)
May have to stick to the normal CR tomorrow, but should know by whether I can join the extended ride by the time I get to CSS.

Well, there was a problem with the normal clubrun last week - very icy the other side of Reigate Common on the Flanchford Road over the Mole. Personally I think that might be the worse part of the route whether we go to the cafe as normal or Balcombe, though I'm sure it'll probably get gritted well this time around and I could just be completely wrong.

Well, we won't be rushing and I'll stick a map in a pocket just in case 8)

I would just like to thank my loyal posse who made me do this despite (me) feeling awful on the ride from home to CSS. I really enjoyed it and was even surprised that I made it up all the hills - even that one up to Chaldon with the nasty kick at the top :D Admittedly I was so tired that I was asleep pretty early last night...

I have to admit that it was hillier than I remembered but it didn't kill us so we must be stronger :mrgreen:

Anyway it was just what I need to get my strength back, so - any suggestions for a route for the next one? I was going to do them alternate Saturdays but this means it clashes with the Hilly 50 (which I won't be doing). So how about next week or the week after the Hilly 50?

Whooops, meant to say I'm thinking of heading over to Cranleigh for the next one - unless someone has other thoughts on a route. Just having difficulty map reading round my cat's bum... :roll:

Thank you so much to Amy for the HILLY 65.

Tis was a compact group and I sort of feel bad for nagging you into that on a Saturday morning where you didn't look or feel well at all. See, that is the power of cycling, I don't think you were 100% but you stuck at it and gave it your all.

Can't believe you made us freewheel down that mile long hill, just to do a U-turn at the bottom to ride back into the cafe at Balcombe. Was that just to make the numbers up??? :lol: :lol: :lol:

TimNick, Dave, Amy, Marky Mark even had pre-booked VIP reserved seating in the cafe at Balcombe, :wink: how nice was that!.
Well not that good when the cyclists turned up to find 4 Addiscombe riders sitting at their pre-booked table, giggles. Those diet chips were fantastic.

That was a tough route but we done it at a pace that made it possible, It did fell like I rode London to Brighton to London.
I was so tempted to go straight to Brighton after the cafe, glad I didn't as the ride home was well worth the effort.

My legs are still aching, but that could be 2 days of sledding tagged on to it :D
