So you didn't max your HR in the sprint?

173 is pretty low still if your max is 191 and you were going flat out. Just asking because your average HRs seemed quite low. Do you often not get within 10-15 beats of your max when pushing hard in the winter? I was only about 5-8bpm off my proper max on Saturday.

I know what you mean, I don't really know why. As I said there were a few moments when I was going flat out on the back straight, but only reached 177. The 191 was not that long ago either, maybe a month ago on the clubrun. I think it was more in terms of power than cardio that I was reaching the limit - the speeds were quite high down there without the Southern wind for once. Realised I had a puncture in my tub just before the start, so swapped to my spare wheel which had a 11-23 instead of a 12-25, I think I made full use of that bottom gear!

Excellent - you got points then Sylv, that dog-out-of-car-window-tongue-out-ears-pinned-back look was not for nothing, eh!

It' weird about your HR though. Mine has been going quite high - about 4 bpm higher than usual. Don't understand it, why it is so low.

:?:

Well done, by the way :D

Ok since Toks has also noticed the posts about HR, why not open this to discussion.

So I've done 191 on the clubrun recently, going flat out probably on a climb just to get to the top first;

Don't think I've gone much more than 177 on the turbo yet even in 2" max efforts though;

Only have the data from last week's Hillingdon in terms of racing, I remember averaging 174 for an hour in a cross race last autumn though;

Paul's 1/2h power sessions are done at +/- 165 bpm yet he produces significant wattage.

The sprint at Hillingdon, I don't recall it being an absolute max effort for me, a few people in the way, I thought I was only 3-4 places behind Adam, but ended up being 9 places.

I guess it all depends where you are and what you are doing in a road race. Would be interesting knowing Macalister's average and max HR ... seems he was a bit knackered the following day. I was fine

Maybe next time I'll use the Powertap too

One thing I know too, is that my wattage at lower HR has increased significantly since doing the LBP -20 riding- I can have a very decent ride @ 130 bpm now, whereas at the beginning it was pretty boring.

Hmmm...can you really attribute this to LBP training alone given the fact you've done both road races mountain bike races? Both these events will increase your threshold power output and as a consequence your power output will be high at low heart rates.

Yep - I had been doing lots more racing in the spring/summer prior to starting LBP in september, than at the moment.

That's a lot of expense to go to for an uber lightweight bike, and then stick a 750ml bottle on it :roll: .
