My new training tool...

Well, I decided to bite the bullet and get myself one of these off road thingies. Here is a few pictures of my new toy which I picked up today. Took it for an evening spin down the worth way, its pretty damn quick for an off road bike, just need to get a slightly longer seat tube, I know it looks long enough but need an extra 2cm and then it will be all systems go. It felt really good fun, can't wait to take it on some proper exhibitions into the hills.

Can't make the club run for the next couple of weeks, but next one I will be up for doing off road.

your rear derailleur is crying in that last pic. get a longer chain!

ooki reckon the chain length is probably ok

realistically you'd never ride with the largest chainring and largest sprocket (unless you wanted to wear you chain in a single ride)

anyway looks like a very nice (fast) bike

Maybe, but to be honest am not too bothered, am just enjoying myself doing as many different and new things as possible. Got up early today and went swimming before work, still got to the office for 8.20am. Did a half day, picked up the MB and did an hour hammering around the old railway line. Am sure it has got to be doing me some good. Am still trying to keep in shape for the road season, but am really planning my road season to start proper when I get back from Majorca.

Paul, you should get one as well, it is really good fun.

Very swish indeed, look forward to seeing you on a few MTB rides soon. I'll be back in London in March so will post a some rides then, possibly with a mix of training type and fun type.

but please it does hurt me to look at the derailleur like that. That lovely red gear hanger will snap if you do that in the mud.

Its good having a training group for those that find they need that sort of thing in their life, also with racing etc. But its just as important to have a 'playgroup' for those whose main motivation is to go out and have fun on their bike.

that rear mech has to be stretched like that cos it needs to be able to stretch to the big ring on both sides.

remember if its not tight like this then on the small rings both ends then it will be as loose as a wizards cuff.
