Decent ride yesterday - thanks guys

18mph door to door @ average HR 128 (my max is 237)

Decided the 18/19 ride was for me & was in speedy company with the likes of Steve, Adam, Paul & George - racing the next day.

The ride was really easy for me as I loitered near the back for the majority to the cafe. One stop for a puncture just before the through and off but otherwise OK.

With the group still quite large the T&O was reasonably easy and surprising smooth with so many people involved.

Coming into the sprint I Mark Mc front wheel blew up without warning a bike length inront of me which made me jump a little. Fortunately we were close to the cafe so we left him to fix it. The T&O never really got going again properly after that point. After a couple more turns i realised we were probably less than half mile to the line so decided the front wasn't the best place to be.

With Adam doing the work on the fron he got a small gap which was slowly increasing - figured it was now or never and almost killed myself to get on his wheel. Then just as I thought I could grab a couple of seconds rest on Adams wheel Paul came lying past. Left it a little too long and despite the 'encouragement' from Adam didnt have the legs to chase again.

Average to the cafe was 19.6mph

In the cafe the cake was again really nice!

ride back was tougher than the ride to the cafe - decided to do some work so was on the front for a little while.

This near killed me but fortunately at the golf course i nipped out in a gap in traffic infornt of evryone - this gap allowed me the time i desperately needed to slowly make my way over the golf course. decided not to stop at the church as was really struggling at this point. Again the small time advantage allowed me to get over Merstham and almost immediately as the rode turned downwards Steve and came came up alongside and it was a blast for the final mile or two.

Overally a good ride - I am starting to find my legs again after the layoff although the midweek running and swimming is taking its toll on the climbs.

Good run out with the training group yesterday. Seemed to take an age for my legs to start working but once they did they felt pretty good. Fun going into the sprint, Stu gave us a small lead out then Andy E hatched a plan to box me in so he could make it two weeks in a row for the win. His plan worked brilliantly....well it would have had he not boxed me in 2 corners to early  Once I hit the front that was it, game over.

Good fun in the cafe, amazing what a bit of spring sunshine can do to put a smile on peoples faces.

Back via BH, started of steady but the pace soon picked up as per usual. By now I was feeling good and did some good strong turns on the front both on the way to BH and then down the other side heading back towards the 217. Looks like the weds chain gang sessions are paying off.

Sorry to hear about the crash, hope all involved heal quickly and soon get back out there on 2 wheels.

Cheers.

3 puncures in 95km!!! Time for new tyres me thinks... Hmm.

I had the same today - well apart from the fact that it was my two spare tubes that were poorly mended, and that the puncture itself was due to a worn-through tire that should have long been replaced ... it had been a really enjoyable recovery ride until then. After tying a knot to the only salvageable tube I had (the others had holes near the valve) then realising there was a second hole in it, my last resort was trying a second knot to it (I wasn't holding my breath though). Thankfully at that moment a nice old chap stopped and offered me one of his spares.

Also hope the broken get mended soon

Sobering ride for me with Cardiff Jif on their Saturday CR.

One of their friends, Kate Auchterlonie, was hit by a car and killed earlier in the week while out riding. We rode to the spot where she died on Caerphilly Mountain to pay our respects, then continued around the hills and valleys in beautiful sunshine. I did not know her but listening to the chatter around me she was a wonderful person who will be terribly missed by all her friends and family.

My plan would have worked too if it wasn't for those pesky kids! Oh no, it was actually cos after all this time i still get those ruddy corners mixed up :x

Next time dude... Next time

Sorry to hear about the crash, hope all involved mend asap.

Oh jeez, horrible. Do we know if she was related to a Lesley of the same name, who I think some in the club know, I might have met her too.

Sounds like a bad pile up you all had and I hope you are ok apart from the broken bits and traumer so get well soon John, George is on 15% bonus if you see the Dr laser.

I thankfully was at the front when it all kicked off behind me. They say bad luck comes in 3's, so perhaps I'll stay away next week :?
Although I feel for John and his busted wrist, it could have been much worse if he hadn’t been wearing a helmet :(

If you are worried about the bad luck coming in 3's thingy.

Maybe it's time to do the third one yourself, in a controlled way, headbutt a door or poke yourself in the eye 8)
Glad to be of help, MM

Went back to the hospital yesterday. Good news, it now looks like I have just one fracture rather than two. So I am already 50% better than I was on Saturday! Although, I am still stuck with this stupid great cast on my arm for the next five weeks.
That's five whole club runs I'm going to miss
