119 bus rude and dangerous driver result

Postby Alan M » Fri Feb 27, 2009 5:34 pm

Only a few hours into being back in the Croydon traffic a 119 bus driver cuts dangerously close to me in central Croydon. I joined him at the next bus stop and politely asked if I could have a word with him but he steadfastly ignored me and drove off. I complained to TfL and received a response from Metrobus within 48 hours.

Dear Mr. Malarkey,

Complaint Regarding Driver of Route 119 Bus

I am writing in response to your complaint regarding the driver of a route 119 bus.

Based on the information that you have provided I have identified the driver of the bus in question. He will now be interviewed by our Driving Standards Manager about the incident and the CCTV from the bus will be downloaded. He will be left in no uncertain terms that his behaviour is unacceptable and may be referred for remedial training if it deemed necessary.

I apologise for the experience that you were subjected to and I do hope that you do not have any more problems with inconsiderate drivers be they bus drivers or otherwise.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Middlewick

Administration Manager

Do you think all the busses have CCTV on them now. I have seen alot of cameras fitted to them.

Near miss is sill better than a hit, that was a nice welcome back for you!

That sounds quite sinister.

Welcome back Alan. :D

I made a similar complaint about a 403 bus driver's road rage, they replied in a similar way, but when the driver was interviewed, he conveniently could not remember an incident with a cyclist.

What you really need is your own CCTV camera like mine ... http://vholdr.com/shoot/camera/overview ... it's so light I can attach it to a helmet with some strong sticky back velcro. The video quality is very good too.

I am not sure I can cycle in your group Phil for fear video evidence being used against me! Was that what she bought you for Christmas? Cool

I wish consultant surgeons were ruled in similar ways.

Nothing sinister about remedial training. It's what the thick kids at my school used to get, back in the day. Very grateful they were too.

Hi Alan

Well done for getting a result here. I got literally forced off the road today in Bromley by a 261 route bus driver who beeped me as he did it. If I hadn't ridden up onto the pavement I'm not sure I would be typing this now.

I tried to use the TFL website to register a complaint but it just logged a server error as I had finished my long explanation on the online form. When I called TFL they said they often had server errors.

How did you do your complaint?

Cheers

Neil

Sod reporting it to TfL. If a bus forced you off the road while blowing his horn I'd report it to the police and let them deal with it. Forcing another road user off the road has to be at least driving without due care and attention, if not dangerous driving. Time of day, where it happened and the bus route number should be enough to track down the scumbag.

I am no beardy, anti-car, 4X4-basher, but standing in silence with a bunch of cyclists on Caerphilly Mountain last week at the spot where their friend was killed has hardened my views towards any motorists trying to intimidate cyclists.

This is who I contacted about my incident (called, didn't write):

London Buses Customer Service Centre, 84 Eccleston Square, London, SW1V 1PX
phone: 0845 300 7000

This is the TfL complaints policy ... http://origin.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/corporate/London-Buses-complaints-and-feedback-policy.pdf

or you could contact the bus' garage directly. Use this site to find the garage ... http://www.londonbusroutes.net/garages.htm

Hope this helps.
