[quote="Sean Hogan - 何祥"]What sort of distance are we talking about here Amy? I'm pushed for time tomorrow, but with a meal with friends cancelled on Sunday I might well be able to join you. Assuming that I can (...yes I know I'm not good on this) where and when on Sunday?

Ta.

I'll hazard a guess before Amy answers at.. Sunday 09.00 @ CSS, distance 65-80 miles, location somewhere in Surrey following a route of quality pubs and cafes

Pretty close :D but I was going to say 9.30 at CSS. I've already said my intended destination - Cranleigh!! Will go out roughly along the club run route but with a few different lanes - I fancy dropping down Reigate Hill :D - and then turn off at Newdigate to swing down south before turning back up to Cranleigh. Could go to a pub in Cranleigh - but I haven't been to any recently so can't say what they're like now - otherwise there's a Notcutts garden centre just outside Cranleigh with a cafe - OK?

Up for long one but can't make this Sunday as floor laying in the nursery is required (it's the nesting thing don't you know). Will be out on Sat for CR, so have a great ride on Sunday and see you the week after (if I don't get the opportunity finally for the first sportive!).

Hi Amy and the rest..

just to let you know, a really lovely girl called Claire turned up today and was keen to join you tomorrow. although she went with the 15's today (as it was her first time) she rode to box hill with us and could more than hold her own with the 17's next week.

keep a look out for her before you head off. I cant imagine that there will be that many girls on bike at CSS at 9.15 tomorrow morning, so i shart leave a description. :)

Chloe

Claire - if you managed to find the forum and are reading this. sorry to talk about you, i just wanted to give Amy the heads up.. Great to meet you today and have a good ride.

Not a problem, Chloe - Claire, you're more than welcome to come along, as I'm finding it very hard to drag this lot out of their comfort zone into different lanes :?

So definites for tomorrow

:( I've got an upset stomach, unless I feel infinitely better overnight I'm going to have to give this one a miss. It must have been the cake. cake is evil.

Have a good ride, hope the weather holds.

Sean, I'm afraid we turned right in Newdigate towards Capel - you were so close, in fact, I remember thinking at about that point if by some chance we might see you  So after Serge left us we were down to three - me, Marky Mark and newbee Claire (after first time out with the club yesterday!)

It was a pretty good day, even if Marky Mark put the mockers on it by wearing shorts  I seem to remember a bit sunshine on the final approach to Cranleigh... but at least it was dry. I think I did the longest ride (and on the heaviest bike) with just over 77 miles on the clock but I was the slowest, especially on the hills. But things are getting better - I'm not being completely dropped at the bottom of the hill only nearer the top - unless it's a long grind :D

(Note to self: must change inner tube on back wheel for one with a longer valve - it doesn't help that I can't pump the tube up to it's proper pressure.... )

nearly forgot - Mark, which knee is giving you gyp?

If it's your left, it might be that it doesn't like the twisting movement and pressure you need to release your foot from the pedal rather than the position of the cleat. That's why I, for once, prefer Shimano - you can loosen the pedal to make it easier to clip and unclip and if you get the SPD-R (or something like that that ends in R) you have a wider range of moves to release the foot.

Yes, it was - so close... We had waited 10-15 minutes at CSS but I was aware of people getting cold and Serge had been there since 9.10 and needed to get back for a suit fitting appointment.

Never mind you got a ride

Lovely day for wearing shorts for the first time this year.... Brrrrrrr not  .

Sean we did wait for you like Amy said and I remember looking at the station clock at 9.40 then more time to put the gloves back on, have a drink and then set off. You must of been SO close to us, surprised you didn't see us in the distance  .

Amy that was great route taking in some quality variation and new scenery. Honestly more people should try your pub runs, We could tell the pubs you like because we passed them twice! Your navigation skills are out of this world only missing the odd turn by a couple of yards but all in all well thought out.

I think Serge (monkey boy) was setting a bit of a pace that would of killed me if sustained for the whole ride, but he was only doing a short ride so blame him for wanting to go that little bit faster, Serge left us at the CR - Box Hill Junction (20 miles into the ride), then there were 3, I think Sean was less than a mile from us by then, so close and yet so far.

Claire  : Well what can I say about our newbie Claire, I found out it was her first CR on Saturday and after recommendations from John the old'n, Grahame(magnum P.I.) and Chloe she decided that a Sunday run the day after her first club run would be just what the 'nurse' ordered, there is no stopping this girl, she has guts, strength, stamina, a great new member in the making. Claire had told Amy and myself that she had tried the odd ride with other clubs but NONE of them had been as welcoming and friendly as the Addiscombe were. I think there is very strong rider in the making and the ladies in the club racing circuit should snap her up ASAP.

Glad I could act as a wind break to keep the ride flowing, Amy is not firing on all cylinders at the moment yet but she is doing really well getting her fitness back. PS it was my left knee that was aching, I will look into releasing the pressure on that cleat, cheers for the advice.

Some stats from the ride :-

Distance : 74 miles
Ride time : 4h 45m (not including the stop)
Av Speed : 14.8 mph
Max speed : 48 mph
Av HR : 142 bpm
Max HR : 176 bpm
Av Cadence : 71 rpm
Total climb : 4329 ft

Now we know where all the pubs are, bring on the summer for a ploughman's and a pint in the beer garden. :P

Thanks for the ride, I had a lovely day and look forward to some more long ones. :D :D :D :D :D :D

I did and it was fine. I know one thing. I found riding on my own a lot harder.

I don't like riding on my own, I have not learnd the art of pace yet, I ride too fast and burn out far too quick. Riding with a group is much more fun and the time flies by, you get so much support from others.

Thanks for the high praise, Marky Mark! The route might have varied a little more if I could've faced going up over Hurtwood from Ewhurst and then up and down till we climbed up either Coombe Bottom or White Down

But at least I'm starting to feel some strength coming back - the stamina's OK so long as I don't try too hard. So having people come out to push me a bit over my comfort zone is good for me but I know when to wheeze back  Actually the lungs were pretty good yesterday: bit breathless to begin with but afterwards it settled down and I didn't feel there was a problem with legs and lungs as in previous rides :)

Anyway, hope TimNick enjoyed laying the nursery floor rather than enjoying a grand day out on the bike :D
