Membership of British Cycling

Postby Dombo » Wed Mar 11, 2009 9:22 am

JUst had a look at the above website, and they now have something called Everyday Cycling membership alongside the Bronze/Silver/Gold membership that gets you a racing licence. I was wondering whether most ACC memebers are also members of this organisation and if so at what level?

I do regular CRs and sportives and the occasional mtb race but not road racing (not clear on the categories but even 4th cat looks too high for me  )

I have a membership for Everyday Cycling as i'm not planning on doing any racing (at present!)

For £24 a year you get a weekly email with all the upcoming events and apparently, are entitled to certain discounts with the card (you get a membership card through the post).

Most importantly, you get third party insurance which I feel is essential if you're planning on riding anywhere. My biggest concern is hitting a pedestrian as 90% of the time, the pedestrian is found to be non-fault. Most sportives now require third party insurance too.

Personally, I think it's well worth the money.

One of the conditions of membership of Addiscombe Cycling Club is to have third party insurance.

Whilst we (the club) do not check that you have it, we expect that you do. I get mine as a part of my CTC membership. Personally, I think the CTC do more in terms of campaigns, etc. for everyday cyclists than British Cycling do. Your opinion may vary.

I get my insurance as part of membership of London Cycling Campaign.

One of the conditions of membership (of LCC not ACC) is that you have to show an interest in waterproof leggings and dynamo lighting systems, but on balance it's a price worth paying.

Thanks all. Just joined Everyday Cycling. Seems to be a more leisure/sportive/club cyclist version of the Gold/Silver/Bronze racing membership of BC.
