Bike shop problem #2

With my commuting bike temporarily (?) indisposed (see 'bike shop problem #1') I've been commuting on my carbon Cannondale. In the last couple of weeks I've noticed the right pedal getting more and more unstable in the crank, but couldn't find any obvious reason for it. Finally I went to Brixton Cycles last night to see if they could throw any light on the matter. Without hesitation they said that the problem was a fault with the crank itself, which was the subject of a recall from Cannondale. 'Result,' I thought. 'Problem solved.'

But I went to my Cannondale dealer (OYB in Tooley Street) first thing today and guess what? They'd heard of no such recall, and were extremely sceptical, but reluctantly agreed to look into it. As I write, I still await their call.

In the meantime, I've looked online and the recall was in the States, for cranks on bikes sold from June 2007 onwards. I bought mine in that same month, but it had been a 2006 model. But the cranks are the same - Cannondale Si Carbon - and the problem is the same as the one leading to the recall . So my question is, do I have any chance of getting them to replace it or sort it out? I have the distinct feeling they're going to call back and tell me there's nothing they can do (if they call back at all, of course - OYB are another notorious never-call-backer).

That's it now - I'm out of bikes. If only I could find the key to my old Dutch granddad bike...

Cannondale are a bit of a nightmare to deal with as a company. they have different departments all over europe, you have to order the part over the phone with someone based in switzerland then it gets sent from like denmark or something. = long times and bad communication.

Bike #3 beckons I think. I'm sure Mrs Adrian and young Albert would understand.

There's probably not a lot either outfit can do to get you off the tube any quicker, but they have both missed an opportunity here. A phone call, a realistic indication of time-frames, and you would be on here singing their praises. In the present climate, you might have thought that businesses would put in a bit of extra effort - for their own benefit if nothing else.

Looking forward to seeing the pimped DW though!
