Well its officially shorts season now, so seems reasonable.

Unfortunately, I can't ride this saturday. something about not seeing the gf enough.

I have noticed a trend recently whereby the thread building up to the club run has been longer than the reports of the rides themselves.

I really like reading them all (when i am supposed to be working)

I am planning on attending my first club run tomorrow.

This may sound stupid but what do I do when I get to CSS?

Dan, just turn up around 9am ish. The captain and vice captains will be the vocal ones calling the shots. Introduce yourself to them and they will sort you out and you will be well looked after. See you tomorrow

Introduce yourself to Monty (club captain) or any of the Vice Captains.

Monty will be on his Trak Madone with his name written in big (ish) letters on it.

The VCs will gather together just after 9am to decide who is going out with which group.

If it's your first club run, we'd suggest that you don't go out with any group faster than the 17mph average. This way you will get to know the routine, etiquette, calls, and the route without too much pressure.

Thanks guys.

If I can drag myself out of bed early, i'll see you for a coffee.

Think i'll start with the slowest group and see how I get on.

Realistically, how tough is the route? I've seen the map etc but never ridden the roads.

Also, do club members pay subs etc, any forms to fill in?

I've already got insurance which I understand is a requirement.

If you like it and you want to formally join, one of the VCs will be happy to give you a form to complete at the cafe.

Subs are £20 per year, with a discount if you pay by direct debit.

Danky. Jokes apart, you will be well looked after and i'm sure you'll love the day. If you get too tired riding out to the Charlwood cafe make sure you opt for the quick(short) route home, we call it the shortcut via Box Hill.

Good luck, Marky Mark

Sounds good.

Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Watch out for me on the red and black Viner (literally, if I can't get the hang of the signals!)

Doubt you'll be able to keep up with my trusty steed:

Well seeing as you lot spent 2 pages talking about the thing the day before are you going to write a report on the actual ride? .

Easy spin out with the 17s to the cafe today. Well it was until just after the ice cream factory(?), well where the sign is anyway, I was on the front and called loudly "left" signaled and started turning. I know people often go straight on here but I think the left and twisting lane (old route) is a nicer route than straight on, with the benefit of one left turn against two right turns if you go straight on.

I turned but just as I was someone shouted "straight on" from behind and there was a bit of a shuffle and slow. I carried on going left and the others went straight on. No great problem and I know some folk like to follow the breadcrumbs they left out the week before, but if the person on the front calls a direction and signals then I think you should go that way or you get more confusion and potentially a touch of wheels. even if you don't normally go that way why not try a different lane to the cafe? Too much like scaletrix otherwise we may as well have slots cut in the road  . Sorry rant over.

Anyway, I carried on and met a chap from VCL, had a little chat and then bumped in to Grahame and Nick by the road just finishing with a tube swap. I stopped with them and we rode in to the cafe together, on some other different lanes  :!: .

Had a Baker's breakfast (bacon baguette  ) then left early with a handful of others for a nice run home.
