Advice on mountain bike purchase

Postby Rob Q » Tue Mar 17, 2009 3:34 pm

Hi All,
I have a work colleague that is thinking of getting himself a new mountain bike. He is a social rider, that requires something half decent that will last, but also doesn’t want to spend to much money either as the bike will be used primarily on weekends etc. He has asked for some advice knowing I'm a enthusiastic cyclist (road), but my knowledge on mountain bikes is limited.
He also wants to buy one for his wife and has a budget of around £300 per bike. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Specialized Hardrock. Best value there is.

And the mighty Ev*ns have them in stock:

MTB first, then a road bike. MTB is more versatile, teaches you valuable skills transferable to road bike.
