I think that they vary according to the actual sales person, rather than more generally the company. 'We thought Mallards', who we bought through were brilliant, but the people selling thought they were poor.

FYI we used Cubitt and West (West Wickham), and I would NOT recommend them.

Not much help, but remember their fees can be enormous.

I'm not sure that I have a choice in the agent that the person I'm buying from uses?

True, but certain agents are known for inflating asking prices to get the initial instruction from the seller.

So if your seller's agent has a green mini cooper double parked across a disabled bay with his firm's name emblazoned down the side, you should probably bid very low to start.

Bairstow aren't too bad, and Park and Bailey are ok. If you begin by looking for one-bed flats that'll give you an idea as to who's got the most on their books. Try www.rightmove.co.uk and see who pops up frequently.

Not been a seller yet but when I bought mine it was through Paul Meakin in Selsdon and they were pretty good.

Crikey, I didn't know they were still around.
I sold my first flat through them circa 1982 - and from what I remember, they were quite good then
