Goodwood July 31st

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Did you do something bad in a previous life? sounds like self punishment! can't wait

this may sound weird, but I've been commuting on and off to work with a heavy rucksack. I find I can maintain a faster average speed with about half a stone on my back than when without, almost 2mph more.

I understand the laws of momentum, but surely I'm defying some other laws of physics, like more weight = more knackered?
Does this mean i'm too light, and need to put a bit of weight on (hopefully muscle)??

Maybe it is because you have a large uncomfortable bag on your back that you want to get home quicker so you can take the damn thing off your back.

Cheers

mmm! simon i suspect you're conscious of the fact you have a rucksack on your back and you're probably putting in a greater effort on commutes because of it. When your rucksack free i bet you're more relaxed and psychologically take it easier.... Unless you've actually got a specifically diagnosed weakness in your muscles I'd forget about building mucsles and work on building power: time trials, road races, 19mph and 21mph group rides or any 'threshold' efforts will help you with do that

I think you are both right,

uncomfortable and stress! weighed the bag when I got in , was 13.5 lb. So riding with weight should be good power training for race prep.
Also do 3 hard laps of the park with it. Is it a good idea to keep this going until the hcap day.
Hopefully I'll remember not to race with it still on.
