We saw you getting out of Butlers (I think) Paul this afternoon but my beeper doesn't work. I almost ran into a bus behind us trying to swerve to do a u-turn :|

[quote="Sean Hogan - 何祥"]I thought Sprints only counted if Ant contested them the sprint meister that he is... :P

 Well I found my equal today in the form of Stu. He said his sprint had really improved and boy was he right. Good work from the young 'un. :D

Sean, your going really well at the mo, keep it up and you'll be leaving the 19's in your wake in a matter of weeks. Its shaping up nicely for you too have another crack at racing :D

I brought along a couple of new guys today who saud they enjoyed it and will be back for more in the future.

I went with the 19's with my weights on :)

I don't quite agree. If I were moving up a group, particularly one with no max speed then I would want a larger group with more shelter particularly on a windy day like yesterday. 22/23mph with just two of you is quite impressive though given the conditions were far from ideal. Sprint sounds like it was fun too - think I may have just nicked it on the line 8) :D

The 19's was quite a large group with around 14 or 15 by the time we set off and was quite a mixed group with some quicker guys and other who are moving up through the groups.

From what I remember the ride was largely uneventful. Don't know the name but the road between the little village and the rise through the woods where you can turn left to dot he short one I instigated a little T&O or fast rotations into the group. I really like it on this section as the road is reasonably smooth and with the right people yoou can really barrel along and try to maintain the ace through the woods. Today through this section Steve & Phil got a 20 metre gap on the bunch. I decided to bridge across to them so cam to the front of the bunch and raised the pace slightly hoping the group would tag along. They didnt and I TT'd a little across the gap. Once there I was cooked and Steve was tapping out a steady temp. Then Phil went round him and I am sure I heard the sonic boom - jeez that guy is going quick!

T&O down the carriageway was OK - someone needs to fill in some of those large potholes through the slightly wooded section.

Coming into the sprint I had decided that an early on was required as I dont think that I have the explosiveness of Steve B or Phil. Coming in to the final run I had noticed Steve sticking to my wheel and I was around third behind PoP and Phil. On the final right hander bend I started to come round Philbut there was a car so I eased back behind him. Damn now they all know :) I thought.

Anyway decided to go again and both Steve & Phil were on my wheel. Into the wind I though anysecond they were gonna come round and storm past me. I could sense the swarm of bodies and bike behind me but none of them engulfed me and I held it to the line where I duly died. I haven't ever been succesful with a long run out before so am pleased to see that I can do it with some quick guys in the group.

The ride back was steadier at the start as I had to stay with the two guys had come with to show them the way. One was a bit quicker than the other who was really struggling in the wind. Thanks to Amy for agreeing to look after him and show him the way to regalinos.

This allowed me & on of them to try to latch onto the group. Unfortunately this meant that I had to do all the work. We never managed to get back on and it bloomin hard trying. We did managed to catch the regrouping at the church.

Mertsham was painful but we (Steve & Phil with a few hangers on) had a quick blast down the other side which was the most painful part of the day.

Thanks or the ride guys was good fun today.

No problem. I just stuck my bike into top gear and used it as a strengthening exercise but even then I still had to ease back every so often... Poor Matt, all he'd ever done before seems to've been his 6 mile commute - no wonder the other guy, another Mark, called you the Northern b@st@rd!!

Anyway, do thank Matt again for buying me tea and lunch at Regalino's - he didn't have to. Hope he's glad not to have bailed out as he was talking about - but don't tell him the last person I nursed back like that to CSS was Mo on his first club ride a couple of years ago...

What about your Birthday outing at Palace?
[quote="Mlocke"]Don't know the name but the road between the little village and the rise through the woods

Between Newdigate and Partridge Rd heading towards Rusper is Rusper Road. It changes its name so between Partridge Rd and Rusper it's called Newdigate Road, English road naming  .

Went with Monty's 17s as had a date with the dark side on Sunday (see results). Steady group, no problems but a bit of grit got between my brake block and rim causing a burr which I had to stop and remove. I tried to catch up but couldn't at last realising they had gone another way! So I slowed down and Paul passed heading towards Newdigate where I found him recovering from his fall. A bit later I saw Gavin riding slowly on his own with a big disc wheel on the back. Not sure why given the wind conditions but he said he was doing his own thing and we parted. What's up Gav? My group then caught me up.

Towards the sprint Monty called that we wouldn't do it given the conditions. I mildly contested this decision and began to wind it up. On the final leg he jumped me but I got back to him and when he slowed a bit before the line I passed easily. I don't think the others bothered. I don't usually win sprints so .....

On the way back I hid in the group nearly all the way but stayed with the front boys, eventually doing a bit of work towards Merstham. A group of about 5 stayed together until Coulsdon where customary coffee was most welcome. I now don't have coffee at the Charlwood stop because it doesn't taste too good!

Tell me about it, I reckon its to do with mass catering, like when you go to a big wedding or something and the food tends to be pretty bad as have to cook for so many. Mind you, I had two cups at Charlwood this week as I needed to warm up. Maybe we can get the club to pay for a whizzy huge cappucino machine to be installed at Charlwood cafe.

Cheers

Good idea but can you imagine the queues? I would settle for a quite word asking them to buy less cheap instant.

Shouldn't take too long, if they froth up a huge bucket of milk just as the first rider enters the cafe and then get the espressos pumping I reckon they could sort us all out in a reasonably orderly fashion.

Cheers

I prefer coffee to tea but always chose tea when it looks like the coffee is not going to be great - you can't do a bad cup of tea can you?
