National duathlon champs. ACC podium 1-2!!

Postby carl f » Sun Apr 05, 2009 10:26 pm

Paul Hone AG-Gold :D
Carl Ferri AG-silver :D

I missed the podium presentation as i thought i had got 4th in our AG,so i went home early but paul called me later to inform me that two guys in our AG got a DSQ for drafting on the bike and my name was called for the silver medal(actually turned out that one was DSQ and the other didn't register with the BTF so wasn't included for a medal-which seems unfair),but there you go!
Will put results up when i have time
Cheers
Carl

Sort it out BTF!!
Does that mean you have to return your gold medal paul?. I contacted BTF yesterday to explain the situation and they said they will send the silver on to me,so i will call them tomorrow and check if they know the situation and hopefully you will get it.....

Brief race report......

I'm still very happy with a bronze in my AG after very little running since xmas due to two calf strains
I entered this race along with clumber which i had to miss becouse of injury and two other duathlons coming up in the next two weekends(steyning and cambs) as part of the national ranking series, thinking i might get a top ten in the AG at the national champs

There wer'e some seriously good athletes there,Adam Bowden who won it with a 30 min 10k and 16 odd min 5k is national 3000 metre steeple chase champ,(but i did beat his bike time :D )lee piercy et al who win all the big national duathlons
I set of in pauls wave hoping to keep him and the fast runnners in my sights on the 1st run which i seemed to do for the 1st 2 laps of the very flat run but he seemed to get stronger or i was already flagging by the end of it and he pulled away from me
After a 36 min 10k which is a PB for me, into transition and on with my sperm hat then a bumpy run with bike through long wet grass out onto a busy A road
The bike course was an undulating 40k(think it was 39.6 or something) two laps which i really enjoyed apart from the huge amount of drafting happening all around the course and felt super strong, this is also the 1st time i raced with my disk wheel which was great
They said there was 10 'draft busting' motor cycle marshalls before at the race briefing but i only saw one on the 1st lap so there was no way they would stop all of the cheats
I think the guy in mine and pauls AG who got a DQ may have been drafting paul as he said there wer'e quite a few behind him every time he looked back
Came into 2nd transition after a 1h 2mins bike but couldn't find my racking number at 1st until i recognised my trainers, after a bit of faffing putting the trainers back on and getting used to wobbly legs i went on to run the 5.32k final run just out sprinting a guy to the finish line from my AG to get a 19.25 mins and a podium place :D
As i thought i was 4th i didn't hang about and missed out on the glory of getting the medal, although i'm quite glad i did now as i would have a silver medal which isn't mine!

All in all a fantastic race and a huge achievement for me to get where i did on the day
22 OV and 3rd in AG
Looking forward to steyning......

Cheers
Carl

Awesome result Paul and Carl

- and there's a lesson to be learned here by us all but particularly by Stu who is competing in the junior Duathlon champs next week

NO DRAFTING STU  The commisaires need little excuse to DQ you so STEER WELL CLEAR and hopefully we'll have another podium place to report on at the other end of the age scale :D
