We may boast about the size of our club but what a disappointing turnout for the pre-arranged presentation by author Clive Parker. Chris Watts

I think you have a valid point. I couldn't be there due to a prior engagement involving my business but its something that did interest me. Your so right to pick up on the old 'size of our club' thing but as for doing anything as a club we're hopeless.

Where does all our membership money go?

Why haven't we had an end of year financial overview telling us how much money is available to spend so people can perhaps come up with ideas on how best to use it?

My membership card ran out last october, am I geting a new one?

What happened to the new website?

Perhaps its time for a change, an injection of fresh blood and ideas could do this club the world of good and drag it out of the dark ages. We could get so much more positive publicity than we do. Easter weekend is upon us, would it not have hurt to use some of the clubs money to buy some easter eggs or soft toys and have a club run visiting local hospitals and dishing them out to those of a young age who are far less fortunate than us health wise.

There's enough brains in the club to come up with plenty of ideas so why are they never heard? Time to stand up and be counted perhaps.....or am I just peeing in the wind and should just wind my neck in.

Perhaps this isn't the best place to post this so if anyone feels my grumblings are justified and feels it needs its own thread then please feel free to move it.

Rant over. :D

Let's not get too animated about this. As the organiser I realised it might be a minority exercise but not everything we do needs to be judged by bums on seats.

As is often the case this event was organised by one interested person (in this case me) but with the help of others who gave willingly. I enjoy the freedom to plan and do without much need to get or attend for 'committee permission' and with minimal fuss. This is the new democracy and I love it.

The event was succesfull on a number of fronts - I saw a few people I rarely see on club runs. We involved my Spanish Language group who I believe enjoyed it. We experimented with a different venue. The talk was interesting and had a minority appeal to touring cyclists - as well as that a large section of our partying community were off in Mallorca and they may well have boosted numbers.

Interestingly we were graced with the presence of Anne Mustoe, a serious world cyclist who has written a number of books. http://www.annemustoe.co.uk/, so don't be despondent - I'm not and thanks to those that did come, those that apologised and those that helped - you know who you are. And of course thanks to Clive Parker whose adventure inspired this event. 8)

Well done to Alan for setting this up. Good work, went well, educational, fun, oh and I sneaked a beer too.
