Save Mayday stroke unit

Not a big fan of MPs at the moment but ours has a point on this one.

Dear Gavin,

I wonder whether I could ask you to support my petition on keeping the Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) at Mayday.

The petition can be seen on the website http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/mayd ... index.html or via my website of

http://www.andrewpelling.org.uk/.

It would be great if you could encourage others to sign up as well.

It is proposed to move our local acute stroke provision to St. George’s in Tooting.

When treatment for stroke is urgent and the loss of brain cells after a stroke is the equivalent of 3.6 years of ageing for every hour without effective treatment, local provision is important.

I do not want to see our fellow Croydon residents passing away in the heavy traffic to Tooting.

What is more we have an excellent HASU at Mayday that according to the Royal College of Physicians is in the top 10% in the country for its performance. Indeed, Mayday was supported by St. George’s as being a good site for acute emergency care in partnership with St. George’s .
