Hog hill circuit

Postby Jim B » Fri Apr 10, 2009 12:39 pm

I'm doing a duathlon there next week and would like feedback on what kind of bike to use -TT or road bike.
I've heard its twisty with a hill, but I've not actually been there myself.
Any comments welcome.

It really depends on how well you can handle your TT bike? Can you climb well and and pedal around corners ? If so you'll be fine. Otherwise the course really makes the road bike the obvious choice.

General rule of thumb I've heard is that there isn't a TT course in this country that is quicker on a road bike than on a TT bike. Obviously Hog Hill isn't a TT course but the comment does relate to all the sporting courses. I don't know Hog Hill but wouldn't have thought there were many freewheeling corners but you wouldn't want to have to keep jumping from tri-bars to base bar for 90 degree bends, of which there still aren't that many on most sporting courses, if only for gear changing.

Do you have enough room in your car for both bikes? Would you be able to get there early and have a quick spin on the TT bike to see what you thought? Failing that you could always mix and match and use your TT wheels on your road bike.
