Go easy on Andrew, Sean. :D He's essentially on board   and we definitley need him despite the fact he occassionally comes across as Roy's father and not his son. Only joking Andrew  :D

He needs to be kept under control Toks  .

Re the sponsorship, clubs have it as they need the extra funds, we don't so why do we want to have the name of a shop stuck on the jersey? Simple as far as I'm concerned.

Endura make some very nice kit that I think is well under-rated. I had some bib tights and jacket that lasted for ages on commuting duty. Dealing with a UK supplier should be easier than a foreign one and less influenced by exchange rates.
The old kit doesn't need binning completely, just tweek it a bit so the old kit isn't totally redundant. The colour is distinctive and high vis so makes sense as it is. The font could be be a bit more dynamic. The idea of some special edition kits sounds good. Even if it isn't practical for racing, I'm sure some people might like versions with say a st.george cross on for overseas events, etc..

Andrew, probably sponsorship has as much to do with mutual branding as the bottom line on the balance sheet. Having on board a cycle shop brand as well known and respected a GB tends to imbue the club with a borrowed status and memorability that in turn improves market penetration and competitive advantage, or in lay terms attractiveness to new members and loyalty to existing members.

In addition, beneficial relationships are established between us and we get cross-marketing and promotion within the sector. This happens informally at the moment through the 10% cost reduction but could be developed into sponsored events, teams, bulk purchase and literature. An involvement governance/committee level could also be desirable. This is all pretty standard marketing stuff and although we aren't a company we are probably similar to a small business in activity levels and could usefully explore avenues relevant to the size and scope of the club.

A tie in with GBs might be the end of our other 10% discounts? eg Pearsons give ACC 10%. Maybe, maybe not - just a thought. I'm erring towards a maybe yes, just a touch. Not sure about sponsorship, how about a charitable kind of tie in. Look at Aston Villa as a footballing example of that, pride? You betcha!! (the principal not the club, I kinda support Tranmere Rovers  ).

Whatever can we have skulls and cross bones all over it please  8) Yarrrrrr.

Isn't there something in the racing regs that if you have sponsorship on your shirt you then have to pay extra to enter races, I think that the Tri-sport news had this problem.

I'm not a marketing man Alan so can't say one way or another on benefits or not in that direction. On a purely personal level I still feel that as a club Addiscombe doesn't need it on a financial basis, continues to attract members without any link in or assumed status, and think it is good that we don't have any sponsorship tie-ins. This allows us should we want to branch off in a number of areas of promotion where we may get hands tied by a sponsor. There's a bit of soul selling in it to my old fashioned ways too, and as Snoop says we could prevent any other benefits, think we also get 10% from optilabs.

There's a lot of mention of GBs here but George may not want a tie in himself and they've already had the odd GB rider which may be what they want to continue to do. From their point of view I can see why they wouldn't want to be tied in as with the size of the club and that many riders in kit there is potential for them to be too far removed from the people wearing their shop on their jersey. Okay they sell GB kit and anyone can buy it but not in the same volumes as there are ACC jerseys on the road.

Yeah but ........

There will always be reasons that can be legitimately cited for doing or not doing something because it may or may not have this or that effect. All I am proposing is that there is an openness to ideas and the opportunity to evaluate benefits and risks of ideas that are put forward. Surely as a club we could all support such modest ideals?

Personally I like our current kit, I`m proud to wear it and find riders easy to spot when racing and when around town.

There is a big finincial implication to ask members to buy a full set of new kit, even if it needs replacing after a few years.

This will lead to a few years of mutiple kits which looks a bit untidy.

Yellow is good and bright (black looks good to you but not car drivers at dusk)

I`m against the idea of sponsorship.

The idea of a retro jersey/training top is one I support.

The reason so few at the club ware the kit is because it is old fashioned.Unlike other clubs none of our female members wear the kit .Addiscombe is an old established club but that is no reason not to be modern and progressive.I agree we should look to change.
