My fastest clubrun ever

Postby Gavin » Sat Aug 13, 2005 5:24 pm

After racing the handicap on thursday I was looking forward to cruising down to the cafe in the 19mph group. I think when we got to the cafe it was about 22mph average and the last couple of miles towards charlwood were incredibly fast. So not quite what I was hoping for but great fun none the less.

I have just been asleep for 2 hours because I was soo tired.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.........

Oh yeah and on the way back I beat AJ up box hill so he leads the series 2-1 with only a few more box hills on the calender before the snow arrives and it closes for the winter !

Glad to hear you had fun. I had 120km on the club after my early morning and I have to admit that I am not looking forward to going out to dinner tonight as I think I will fall asleep in after dinner.

I felt pretty awful on the hills today, could not even compete on Box Hill today. Felt alright on the flats so tried to make up the speed by hammering every flat piece of road after Box Hill.

May see you on Tuesday night Gavin.

Cheers

200km+ Marek today? Good going, with the racing on Thursday.

I might come watch - or who knows race - Crystal Palace.

Was indeed pretty fast at times - but got home with ok legs thanks to eating a bit more than last week.

You were looking pretty good on your new road machine today Sylv. Nice to see you out, will no doubt see you out at the races soon enough.

Cheers

Is it too wide?

How long do the palace races last - 1h?

sylv

that depends how long you can last I think it is about 27km so that should take about 45-55 minutes but I am just guessing.

Your a braver man than me!

Good luck.

Hey Sylv, at Palace the 3/4ths do 27 laps which takes roughly 55mins. The circuit is quite technical but i don't think the average speeds are faster than elsewhere. Its the technical aspect that makes it hard to stick with the main bunch: one hair pin bend and 2 right angled bends. If you get dropped (usually the case for anyone who hasn't raced a lot, lacks fitness or is not confident staying in near the front) there are lots of other groups to ride around with, See ya there maybe, Toks

I think I'll like the tight turns (though my front tire might not, it's a reinforced one with "lips" on either side, have some new ones on the way and if I get them tomorrow might change them at lunchtime!).

I should know how long the races last, I was marshalling there not long ago. I didn't take notice of the number of laps, but remember the Elites were consistently lapping in exactly 2 minutes. Guess it should take me over an hour for 27 laps then ...

See yous there :)

Ah bugger just realised the circuit is going counter-clockwise and my preferred way for turns is clockwise (a bit annoying at Herne Hill). Can we ask them to change it?

Anybody who will be there tonight got a foot pump with them? Got the new tires but just a pocket pump.

Pump them up as far as you can comfortably with the tiny pump, then ride round to the shop near work and ask to use their track pump. Odds on they'll let you.

Loads of people come to Palace in cars - you're almost guaranteed to be able to scrounge a pump.
