A Grand Day Out

Postby SteveD » Wed Apr 22, 2009 9:19 am

Actually several grand days out as my main objective for this year is an End to End ride in early August. I've planned on 10 days riding (so around 100 miles a day) with a day off in the middle. Not being a real tourist I shall be supported by my wife (Sue) who'll be driving with all the stuff and we won't be staying in youth hostels. I haven't actually toured properly since I was about 17 and I don't really like carrying all that weight in panniers etc.. I'll report back with the gory details later in the year.

The racing will be taking a bit of a back seat this year but I am seriously considering riding the Eastern Counties 12 Hr on the back of the EtoE miles - any one else riding?

Good luck with that Steve; it's something every cyclist should do at some point. It's still on my "to do" list (I got halfway once).

I'm sure there will a few of us doing the 12 hour. If you're doing it you should do a 50 and 100 too, and give PVT some competition for the Vets BAR trophy.

Agree, every cyclist should also do the following:

LEJOG (end to end)
Etape at least once
Marmotte
Nove Colli
Quebrantahuesos

And for mtb-ers
SDW in a day
Skyline at Afan Argoed
Race at Gorrick

Good luck and it should be fun, I look forward to your report and any handy tips. Not sure if this has any info that may be of use in your prep - http://www.scottwestwood.co.uk/

LEJOG is on my future radar too, as is SDW in a day.

No to sure about riding a 50 and even less so about a 100. Looking back at my records it seems the last 100 I rode was back in July 1994 (I did 4:19:40) and I seem to remember vowing never to do another one (it's my least favourite distance). Incidentally, the last 12 hr I rode was in August of the same year (230.18 miles).
