I agree that it is a personal choice and would neither wish to counsel for or against anyone wearing one.

I always wear one when I'm riding through red traffic lights at night with no lights on my bike, but if I'm riding on the footpath I don't bother.

If The Mallorca Experience is anything to go by, making hip and elbow pads compulsory would be far more effective than any helmet law. Where's the research on that, eh? Not that I would advocate making anything compulsory of course. Oh, except white socks .
