Have a go at Time Trialling and win a trophy!
Good news for all those who have either dipped their toes in time trialling at the Club 10s, or would like to give it a go and see what it is all about.
This year one of the club trophies (The Pip Heathfield cup) is going to be awarded to the person who in racing in the Southern Counties 10 miles TT makes the best improvement against their PB. i.e. This will be the Addiscombe rider with the best handicap result in the SCCU 10.
If you have never done an Open TT, or any TT, before this is the perfect chance to have a go.
If you have done a Club 10 in the last 3 years then you will have a PB for a 10 mile TT, if you have never done a 10 then the first of this year’s Club 10s is on the evening of 12th May so you can do that to get a time. You will need a current 10 mile TT PB to put on your Southern Counties entry to be eligible for the handicap competition, and therefore the nice shiny trophy at the annual club dinner. You will need to send in an entry form for the SCCU 10 in the couple of days after the first Club 10 but any help you need with that can be provided by a number of people in the club.
The Club 10s take place near Dorking and the first one will start at 7-7.30pm. If you let Jon Hemming, who organises them, know and he’ll allocate you a time slot and send you a start sheet in time for the race. The course is a very simple straight out and back one, over the first roundabout, turn at the second, and retrace to the chequered flag. There should be a marshal to let you know where to turn as well so you don’t have to worry about it. Cost is only £2 or £3 to cover costs and end of season prizes.
The Southern Counties Open 10 is on 30th May and takes place early morning (the first rider will be off at 6am but don’t let that put you off, you’ll be home nice and early too) near Rusper/Horsham. This uses some of the dual carriageways we use for the thru’ ‘n’ off on club runs. It is a faster course than we have our Club 10s on largely because it is flatter and has a much nicer road surface so you should be able to improve your PB. This course is slightly less simple but still easy to follow, and as an Open event will be fully marshalled. This event costs £7.50 so still cheap.
Want more, what about cash!
The Southern Counties events normally have handicap prizes, so if you are one of the riders who improves their PB by the most out of the whole field then you win some .

Go on, give it a go.
