The death of any cyclist is naturally always terrible news. When its someone from our wider lycra clad community it brings the feeling of loss for his family and friends just that bit closer. May he rest in Peace

We can't be sure at this point but it sounds like a lack of driver awareness.

That is just the worse thing to be reading.

When I'm riding I try and often do forget the real danger we are in.

When I'm not riding I DO think about how bloody dangerous it can be, I'm sure we've all had close calls, those close calls are sometimes only mm's from becoming.......... (I don't even want to type it).

I often keep my rear light on even during the day and I know my lovely bright yellow Addiscombe kit has probably saved me more than once.

On the TT forum I have passed on condolences from myself and all at Addiscombe CC.

I will be wearing a black armband in the TTs I'm riding next weekend. I hope others in the club will do the same.

A tragic loss, young bloke serving in the Army with 2 kids. Difficult to comment without knowing what happened, the road etc, but it does seem odd that they didn't see a big bloke on a bike. Perhaps just a sad case of tiredness while driving causing accidents.

Question for other testers - who know the course? Do you know what the junction's like? From reading the thread it sounds as though Gareth was passing a slip road turn off when the car cut across him trying to get to the slip road? Have I got that wrong as I thought all courses had now stopped passing slip roads (as per the Horsham 25 course where you go up and over the Broadbridge RAB) because of the spearpoint junctions, but also to avoid "clipping" accidents when cars are turning off.

I read the many posts on the Time Trialing site post with great sadness. One person, forum name LincolnshireLass, made a link to the same forum just a year ago, when Gareth posted an under-hour PB in the same event. A nice memory of a very keen cyclist. R.I.P
