Palace pics!

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Did my usual tongue-pulling to John but he didn't feature that pic ...

I gotta sort out this number plate fitting business eh Toks (I'm sure that's what was slowing me down :) - but where are you?!

By the way anyone know this London Dynamo guy's name? Rode and chatted with him from Brixton, he looked pretty fast.

Is it just me or does that camera angle of Tim and the guy from London Dynamo make it look like they are riding miniature bikes?

Cheers

Well, looking at those pics I was going to ask what people thought of my position on the bike. On the hoods my arms are almost straight, whether other people's elbows seem to be almost at 45 degree angle, even moreso on the drops.

Saying that others (look at Warwick Spence for instance) look more stretched than me - and he should know he works at Bikefit:

What do you think?

I think your position looks fine for being on the hoods. The london dynamo rider looks like he should be stretched out a bit more, but you never know he may have a dodgy back or something.

Well that's the thing, I'm not entirely sure that I am comfortable. I know a road bike is not an armchair, but I feel really awkward on the drops, and on the hoods ok but I wouldn't ride all day in this position, I tend to move my hands back a bit when riding without the need for braking.

I was going to get a shorter stem but think the best is first to have a fitting session at Dauphin, like it's been recommended here. So I've emailed them see if I can go there next Saturday.

Mine's too long! (the stem).

It is a 100mm. Any thoughts on a 70mm stem - will it compromise the bike's handling, make it too nervous? Such short length is relatively common on mtbs but seldom seen on road bikes - though Thomson make them as short as 50mm.

Go to Dauphines, I was measured up there when I bought my bike by Rohan and he was brilliant.

I later went to Cyclefit when I had a few problems due to me not setting my bike up properly after taking it apart when flying overseas and they charged me a fortune to get it back to what Dauphines had originially done.

Mind you cyclefit do also look at lots of other things but I have to say that Dauphines is probably better value for money, I think they charged me £50 which I got back when I bought the bike.

Cheers

I'm booked at Dauphins for Saturday week.

Will have to do a decent speed on the clubrun to be there for 11.30am :D

Hair

Postby Nick Hussey » Fri Aug 26, 2005 12:40 pm

That's strange, I've been looking at various photos and have realised with shock that some of you guys have HAIR on your legs. I might as well have rode with stabilizers in my racing days, that was less uncool than having hairy legs.
Hmmm, my Missus (as I've just got back into training after years of injury) had an absolute fit when I shaved my pins for the first time since I've been with her. Various homophobic remarks, etc....If I took that sh*t in PE at school then I can take it from her!
But basically, am I right in thinking I won't be cast aside to ride alone forever if I let them get hairy again???.....
My, the World has changed so far I can hardly recognise it.
Or maybe I just hung out with a certain type of racing snob back in the day.
Thoughts pls.
N.

There are certain members of the Club that do SHAVE their legs.
So you will not be totally alone if you decide to carry on Shaving.

PS I One of those that don't.
