ACC TT 12-05-09

Postby Jon H » Wed May 13, 2009 10:39 am

The first of our evening 10s was held last night on the Holmwood course. It was a tad breezy, but at least the rain held off.
As well as the usual suspects we had one of the top testers in the country making a guest appearance and showing everybody a clean pair of heels.

Awesome Adam, can we assume you were on a TT bike then! You must be gutten about Big Ben being there! Well done anyway it takes something to beat George at TTing.

Nah it was good that Ben was there, he was a good marker. To be only 94 seconds off him was cool. I tried to pursuade him to do the Bletchingly one in a couple of weeks, I reckon I could get closer too him there... hopefully i'll get my chance, he seemed fairly keen.

Yes I was on my new(ish) TT bike, but no disc.

Felt a bit crap through most of it, maybe that was due to the unfamiliarity of the position though. Was pleased to take 7 seconds off what I did last September though, and that was definately a much faster day all round.

Thanks again to Joyce, Jon, Paul T, Chris, Tim and Al for organising, timing, pushing and marshalling etc.

Some good times in there on a windy old night, and with that rough(slow) surface on the first drag.

Adam, Ben did a 49.17 for the SCCU 21 (2 laps) of the Bletchingley course so I'd expect one lap to be pretty swift too. My 50p goes on a low 25.

I was doing a traffic count last night, so was sitting in the car directly facing the A24 so I could see both carriageways.
When George went down the road I could hear the WHUMP WHUMP WHUMP of his disk wheel over the noise of the traffic (and I was on the other side of the road with all the car windows shut).
Adam went down the road looking pretty good in a nice aero position on his new bike in his extemely tight new skinsuit.
Then Ben went down the road and was visibly so much faster then anyone else; just awesome.

Pretty pleased with how the handicapping worked out last night; seven and a half minutes difference between fastest and slowest on scratch, reduced to a minute and a half on handicap.

Yes, he did graciously point out to me that he holds the course record for two laps... like I said, maybe I'll get closer, not actually beat him!

Great performance Adam.
All the more impressive since you don't do many TT's

He's grabbed quite a lot of course records since he moved to the area.

I didn't mean it like that Adam, just trying to give you a rough idea of a time if you get the chance to ride the course beforehand (or to aim at), I think the winner last year (Steve C of NP) was in a low 26.

Great time on your first ride on the bike. Might find it needs a few tweaks or just you either getting used to it or finding what works best for you. Do your team do bike fits?

That Ben Instone was something. Some people seemed to know who he was but the bike looked great and he looked fit and then he caught me not far after half way starting 4 mins behind. I have since checked out his acheivements on the net and blimey. A friendly self effacing guy as well. It shows one of the great things about TTing anyone can ride against anyone on the same playing field (or dual carriageway).
My excuses of being too tall and having a beard are now out of use.
To finish this is what wiki says about Graham Obrees first 10
"his first race was a 10-mile time trial to which he turned up wearing shorts, anorak and Doc Marten boots.[2] He thought the start and finish were at the same place and stopped where he had started, 100 metres short of the end. He had started to change his clothes when officials told him to continue. He still finished in "about 30 minutes."

That was my 6th 10 ever I think, so not much practice. And I only finished building the bike at 4am tuesday morning. I rode 20km out from home to the course, but the bike still felt totally foreign to me!

Definately getting used to it, it felt horrible for the first 6/7 miles. I found my inner hamstrings the most problematic area. Oh, and the road rash on my right forearm directly where it rests on the pad! There was blood.

Yeah, the bike is set up according to what my coach and the owner of InGear reckoned on Monday afternoon. But I feel like I could go lower, but would need to be shorter also to make it work. As my perennial problem is my legs are long, but by torso and arms are short...
