Cor, bit windy wot
Didn't fancy the training group today, which wasn't called the training group but a 19
. Anyway, the next group was the 18 so went with that. The head wind caused havoc with the structure of the group, along with a few speedy efforts from the stronger riders, and this left riders strewn across the surrey countryside, oops
. We did wait a couple of times to regroup, but soon splits were occuring again through the pack. By the time we got to the section through the trees, 6 or so were left to take the lambs green route while the others turned up Partridge.
As wet turned left on to the run in to Charlwood, Stu and Simon H (from Norwood P, who had come along with a few clubmates) were steaming towards us and went past at a good rate of knots. Sod it, I thought, and jumped on. Simon was super strong, staying on the front till after the final bend, where Stu shot from behind him and sprinted away with me on his wheel. I felt like a huge cheat, (well not really, but I suppose I ought to
), so once I'd got my wheel in front of his I free wheeled letting Stu get his deserved win
.
The fast boys were going back via Box Hill and they persuaded me to join them
. Me and Simon sat on the back and had a good chat all the way to Newdigate, where as we turned left, he went to the front and did a big stint. My legs were now starting to feel good and I put a big effort in up the climb before Box. Me Simon and his mate got away, and once on Box I eased away from them. I was sure I was going to get to the top first but right near the top, from out of nowhere, appeared Stu
, with Serge close behind. Super effort boys
. I think they were playing with us oldens, seeing how far they could let us go and how late they could leave it before chasing us down. Perfect timing Stu
.
The super fast ride back to Coulsdon was just as painful, but I managed to Stay with it all the way, even doing my share at the front. Things are definately looking up
