Well it was a non start for me today. :( Firstly due to my inability to remember what my wife told me, I had to cancel my early morning spin with Marky Mark . With intentions of going on the normal cr, I woke feeling awful and this cold that I have been caring seems to have got worse. :? (Even after using the oinksip Max) The weather looks changeable out there, but its dry at the moment, so hope you all had a good one. Off to Madrid tomorrow (work not play) So see you next week.

Well despite the huge interest from absolutely no-one bar Brian to ride on a different road all I'll say is you missed a good ride, so there .

A good route, a bit lumpier and more interesting than the normal route, quiet lanes, and some nice scenery. In windy weather like today I tend to think it's better to go pretty hard, as it's hard work anyway so you may as well give it a bit more umpf and get a good training ride from it.

Just after seeing Keith by Newchapel we dropped on to the B road. This was the only bit I wasn't sure what it'd be like traffic-wise as I've only ever ridden it on a weekday. The answer is hardly a car on it :D .

I knew there were some nice looking lanes running parallel to this B road and was hoping to see the side road to jump up to them. Fortunately Brian knew the road and we got on to a cracking narrow country lane. He knew there was a right a the T junction but this took us back down to the B road so we carried along there as it was nice and quiet and a silky smooth surface, to take us through Edenbridge. It turns out we should have gone left at the T and then right at the next, never mind know now for next time.

On to Westerham via Chartwell for a cafe stop at the Tudor Tea Rooms. I had to get back early and Brian was happy to head for home so we just came back up Botley Hill towards Warlingham. In future I'd go down Pilgrims way and loop back through Cudham and Tatsfield as originally intended.

Thanks to Brian for the company, and a cracking little ride. We rode reasonable hard all the way and had a good workout.

The shorter route we did is circa 50 miles home to home for me so about the same as a shorter route CR. The extension would up it to a similar distance to a Lambs Green and Box Hill CR. I may be biased but I think it's a top route and would make a very good regular alternate CR - distances can be tweaked to suit depending where you turn for home and how much of the extension you add on, but basically it's about the same as the standard route.

When I'm free to do a CR (not much during the season) I intend on doing this regularly so hopefully I might get more than one person to join me in future.

, I'll be up for future rides now that I'm really starting to get my form back.

The 17s I was in today was a lot steadier than last week's - thanks Mr Malarkey for staying on the front :D - so I was feeling fairly fit on the way back and could give it a good thrashing on the ride back.

Thanks should also go to new guy, Dallas, for giving me a tow from home to top of Foxley Lane - meant I could warm up with out killing myself in that wind :D He wasn't intending to join the Addies today but I invited him along and then we couldn't get rid of him! Hope your client forgave you for staying out cycling rather than giving him a physio session!!

Cor, bit windy wot

Didn't fancy the training group today, which wasn't called the training group but a 19 :? . Anyway, the next group was the 18 so went with that. The head wind caused havoc with the structure of the group, along with a few speedy efforts from the stronger riders, and this left riders strewn across the surrey countryside, oops  . We did wait a couple of times to regroup, but soon splits were occuring again through the pack. By the time we got to the section through the trees, 6 or so were left to take the lambs green route while the others turned up Partridge.

As wet turned left on to the run in to Charlwood, Stu and Simon H (from Norwood P, who had come along with a few clubmates) were steaming towards us and went past at a good rate of knots. Sod it, I thought, and jumped on. Simon was super strong, staying on the front till after the final bend, where Stu shot from behind him and sprinted away with me on his wheel. I felt like a huge cheat, (well not really, but I suppose I ought to  ), so once I'd got my wheel in front of his I free wheeled letting Stu get his deserved win  .

The fast boys were going back via Box Hill and they persuaded me to join them  . Me and Simon sat on the back and had a good chat all the way to Newdigate, where as we turned left, he went to the front and did a big stint. My legs were now starting to feel good and I put a big effort in up the climb before Box. Me Simon and his mate got away, and once on Box I eased away from them. I was sure I was going to get to the top first but right near the top, from out of nowhere, appeared Stu  , with Serge close behind. Super effort boys :D. I think they were playing with us oldens, seeing how far they could let us go and how late they could leave it before chasing us down. Perfect timing Stu .

The super fast ride back to Coulsdon was just as painful, but I managed to Stay with it all the way, even doing my share at the front. Things are definately looking up :D :D

No Tony. We've had had variety of different club members riding on the Paragon evening training rides including ACC, so like yourself and other 'normal' minded riders we only welcome inter-club relations. We all have a common intrest but wear different colours.!
Anyway it was nice to have a chat and catch up with some familar faces.

good ride that was. nice to see simon after about a year or so !

real good hard ride, got a good attack going with serge near rusper, and then got away with simon at the end to sprint it out with steve like he said. i didnt realize you let me win though steve?! but looking back on it, you did free wheel the last 20m

the way back to B/H was fun. i dropped my pump before the dual carriage way which is why simon and steve and co got away. serge waited for me down at the bottom of B/H . i got on the front for the first section and kept the speed up at 14-15 mph, and we caught the first few guys such has mark. up the second stretch and serge hit the front, and got us up to 16-17 mph, we now had simon and steve in our sights. round the 2nd hairpin and onto the last stretch i hit the front again, but into a headwind and we were back to 14mph. bit of a funny moment at one point on the last stretch. looking up the road i saw steves head suddenly drop and he seamed to slow down drastically, i thought he had blown, then the same happened to simon about 75m ahead, and then the same to me and serge all in the space of about 15 seconds. it was a huge gust of wind that hit us all one by one.

we caught simon half way up the last straight, and then serge hit the front again. he managed to narrow the gap up to steve to 100m or so by the time we hit the woods and then down to about 70m by the time steve hit the last hairpin. serge was going pretty hard and i was certainly on the red line. we got the last hair pin and i came past serge he encouraged me to get steve, so i put in a huge sprint effort and managed to catch steve just before the top.

good ride back, steve was going very well and doing super strong 35mph turns on the front with simon, so we had a good charge back into coulsdon. i got home and blew riding up my hill

I set off at 07.00 in the p1ss1ng rain, battled with the stupid strong wind, got a Psssssssssss going down the Merstham drag.
Fixed Psssssssss in the Piissssssssssing rain. Not risking riding without another tube.

Went straight home and watched a thing on TV about a guy trying to get fit to join the RAF cycling team to race across America. His bench mark to ge in was to do a 10TT in under 31min, he failed.

Got back into bed and had a hot cup of coffee..... snice :D
