Canary Wharf do have Clif bars :D , but not the choc mint ones :( .

They refunded me for the spare front mech I ended up with, but which shop wouldn't? :|

I popped into Wandsworth one Sunday looking for a fixie sprocket (you can get a Langster in Evans, remember). They didn't have any, but suggested I check out Tri and Run instead  . So, hands up, which of you triathletes is riding fixed these days? Yeah, thought not.

My Decision - ok if you know exactly what you want and can't get anywhere else. The overall lack of Campag kit is disappointing though.

[quote="Dombo"]2. Looking to spend similar amount on road bike, forget sizing advice or what kind of riding I intended (racing, sportives, audaxes), it was sling your leg over it mate and see how it feels. Quality.

I know a couple of so called pro shops will do that for you too

Interestingly, I did some research on the energy, carb, protein, make up of popular Sports bars vs supermarket cereal bars eg Jordans Fruesli (the blueberry ones). The cereal bars won on all counts, though at 35g per bar you do need two per one sports bar for comparative calorific intake. However, at £2 for six bars they compare well on price - basically half the price of the sports bars. They also have a more open texture so more easily chewed and swallowed.
For protein, salted cashews are good, as are the long thin dried polish sausage that Waitrose sell in packs of six for these summer months when pork pie jelly tends to melt in the pocket.
An experiment that involved licking the backs of jelly babies and sticking them to the top tube for later consumption sadly failed at the first bump in the road.

Evans haven't really stood out as a customer focused organisation, but however bad they may be, they do put an awful lot back into local events.

BTW anyone tried the haggle trick at GB's :?: (remember George Clare is Scottish  )

Evertime I'm in there. And it works.
Be nice and keep pushing, they cut the price just to get rid of me

I worked in Evans in the cut waterloo 1977-79, Owned then by a Gary smith. I think he had 2 shops then. Frames were built on the premises and the staff were roadies testers etc. I remember your guru paul nipping round calshot on my track bike the frame builder made for me!!! He was called Harry and was one of those characters you'll always remember, had a VERY rude saying about trike riders!!!

I think he means Evans Ride It! events; i.e their own. Recent King of the Downs was one of theirs I believe.

If running sportives for profit counts as 'putting an awful lot back into local events'....

Blimey folks - just give 'em a break eh...? OK, so Evans may not be everyone's faves on here, but last time I checked, they're not arms dealers or cigarette manufacturers are they..? I don't think they test their products on animals (well not dumb ones anyhoo)??

Snoop - In last 12 months bought a small backpack from Evans and a bike lock too. They both do the job just fine.

I personally would never go into an Evans shop, been rooked too many times. Not all that keen on GBs either.

Pearsons for me-good knowledgeable service from the Brothers Grim.
