ECCA 50 Wet & Windy!

Postby George » Sun May 17, 2009 2:54 pm

Rob RE, Paul and I awoke at the crack of sparrows to drive up to the ECCA 50 this morning.
It was a float day for sure, If you had a boat
At the HQ the heavens opened and I really had to MAKE Paul get into his kit and ride as he really didn't want to ride in the rain.
Luckily it cleared stopped raining so he set off to the start line only to be soaked again.

Rob and I were off a little wile later and fortunately it was only spitting when we got on our ways.Quite windy too coming from the east and south meant that it was a slight head to crosswind on the way out but on the way back from the Red Lodge turn at 23 miles it was 54 11 heaven for quite some time.

Then turning left onto the last few miles of single road it was bang and into a vicious headwind where I had to get all over the bike to keep going it was a real slog, just managed to scrape under 2 hours, I had a target to just make it under 2 so in these conditions I was pretty happy with my ride

Crossed the line and almost caught Paul for 20 mins  Paul really coudn't get into it today and struggled getting his heart rate up.

Rob RE came in a bit later with and wasn't quite firing on all cylinders either.

The main thing is we all started and all finished which was more than most, there were very few riders on the course mostly DNS, they all bottled it.

Paul T 2:17 :( :D
George 1:59:50  :D
Rob RE 2:14 :? :D

Fantastic to get a sub 2 hour ride in those conditions George. Well done to Paul and Rob for riding and finishing, hopefully good for training if nothing else.

I'd seen elsewhere that it was nautical conditions and the DNS list was as big as the did start list. Anyone else putting 3 sub 2:18 riders round? Team prize chance?

I was one of them. I didn't bother with the F1 today. The weather being one of the reasons

Good work guys.

had to put a time down for the ECCA BAR, otherwise it would definitely have been DNS (come to think of it, if George hadn't shoved me out of the van....)
