Thames Turbo Triathlon 25 May

This is for Toks.

I did the same Triathlon in April and I was 5th in my age group and 23rd overall out of 404 finishers. I did 1:02:56 which was 52 secs off the winner of my age group (40-49).

Looking at previous results, the winning time for my age group was usually around 62mins so my target for this one was to match or better this time which could put me in contention for the win.

I managed to improve my swim by 16 secs so all was going well but only managed to save 4 secs on the bike (I did have to stop briefly at a red light and a roundabout). After the 2nd transition, I worked out I needed to do the run in 18 mins so had no choice but to F"£k myself over as they say and make sure I was holding a 3:35 pace as I went through each km marker which I managed to do and crossed the finish line in 1:01:50 which was 66 secs faster than last time overall and 14secs better than the previous winners time which was in similar conditions.

Unfortunately, it seems others have improved as well and I am now 80secs off the same winner. I was however 4th in my age group and 12th overall.

Eventhough I have made massive improvements in my swimming, its still my big weakness and if I matched the winners swim time, I would have beaten him by 46secs overall. My times are dropping quickly so it will come.

Wow a post all for me and it lived up to expectation too. Well done Paul. What will it take to improve the swim then? Is just better technique or more fitness?

Yup - it's all in the technique. Well when you're as strong as Paul H it is. Cheers for the feedback Paul, I enjoyed reading this and Marek's one too. Demistifying the triathlon for us mere mortals.

When I saw the post afore I'd even clicked it I wondered if you'd dedicate it to Toks - arf arf
