Palace 26th May

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

The track was completely dry and but the race numbers were still pretty low. The E12's barely made double figures. Hugo Humphrey's won the 3/4's and Matt Seaton won the E12 race. I made my E12 debut and despite feeling pretty good lost a wheel by riding off the circuit (becoming a habit in crits  )and my poor jump meant I was unable to close a big gap which just grew and grew. So frustratingly I only made it 6 laps which is dissapointing. I'd love to use age as an excuse but Matt Seaton's the same age as me. Oh well it was good to be back  Big thanks to Carol and her kids for cheering me on and all the other ACC representatives :D :D Hopefully I'll be better next time :D

Well done Toks - you were certainly better than that word I mentioned - sorry! Also well done Steve for a creditable and convincing second but I heard you went mountain biking once or twice!!

 Don't worry Alan, I'm pretty harsh on my self and invited critism and you just played ball. Not being very good is always relative. If it was a 3/4 race my off road venture wouln't have been punished and I would've got back on. Unfortunately in the E12's the margin for error is very small especially if you're already operating at threshold intensity. i didn't realise Steve came 2nd - well done mate :D

Well done Toks

I kind of wish I was there but on waking up yesterday moring with my legs in a bit of a state after the tour of wessex and the pouring rain I deceded to give it a miss.

hopefully next week I will be back to form. Hanging in for 6 laps is not too bad, it takes a week or two to get into the feel of palace.

I wasn't intending on racing Palace this week but the thought of travelling over to Hillingdon and back instead seemed a bit pointless. Get my kit on and roll up there in less than 15 mins

So I pull away from the start, mid to back of the pack and ride round for the first few laps pretty relaxed. My Bottechia is much faster than a steel framed Ritchey cross bike and I seem to have overcome my fear of that bottom bend - getting the feel for when to turn and when to put the power down up the back straight.
A few more laps I'd moved up to around tenth position. :D
Then the pace starts upping it a bit and on the climb I'm hanging in for dear life and I'm losing places. I can't seem to recover quick enough for the climb. A few more laps pass and I'm slowly moving to the back and can't fight my way back. 10 laps in I pull over at the top of the hill and watch from the sidelines. In one way I'm pleased that I've done much better than last year when I managed a pathetic 1½ laps but I'm desparate to finish a race there by the end of the year. :)

Well done to Steve who took 2nd in the 3/4 race and to Toks for keeping going. I think alternate Tuesdays here with Hillingdon is now on the cards   .

Well done Ed, 10 laps (a third of the way through) is good going. You were probably just a few watts short of a bunch finish. Keep going mate you'll get it before the summer is over :D

Thanks Hal, as you've hinted a bit more practice and who knows :D
