ACC evening 10, 23rd June (2-up TTT)

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

ACC evening 10, 23rd June (2-up TTT)

Postby Jon H » Thu May 28, 2009 11:23 am

We will be holding a slightly different evening 10 on Tuesday 23rd June at 8.00pm, on the Holmwood course.
The format will be a 2-up team time trial, with categories as follows:

1) Jack 'n' Jill (male & female team, female must stay behind until 200m from the finish)
2) GP de Gents (vet (40+) & non-vet, vet must stay behind until 200m from the finish)
3) Regular 2-up (any team you want)

Billy no-mates solo riders can tag on at the end if there's places available.

As usual entries to me by email, PM or post on this thread.

This is great fun.
Any ladies, or failing that "old" men, want a tow?
If no takers anyone want to ride a straight 2-up?

I know I ask this every year but what's the difference betwen a regular 2 up and the GP de gents? I know you can't through and off in the GP - Sam would have to tow me - but what about the regular 2 up? is it a HC event?

Anyway, put TEAM CAMDEN on the start sheet please Jon

thanks

A Gents GP means a young buck(ess) tows round a vet (over 40) for the full duration of the TT. The vet is only allowed to come past in the final 200m if they want / are capable of a sprint finish. The handicap would be based on the vets PB.

A Jack n Jill works the same but with the man (Jack) towing the woman (Jill) all the way to the final 200m. Age of either rider doesn't come in to play and you handicap off the woman's time.

In both the above it is only the vet or woman's time that counts so if the pacer punctures the other can carry on solo for a time.

A regular 2-up you roll round on a thru n off taking turns of approx 30 seconds each (although as a general rule you don't switch on hills/drags as the rider finishing a turn would tend to suffer more doing this), effectively working together and riding at a higher pace then either rider would be able to manage on their own due to the mini breaks they get from the wind. You want two riders of similar ability and speed, it also helps if they have a similar style of riding and smoother works best rather than up and down in speeds/efforts. Not sure how the handicap works, I guess of the PB of the fastest or slowest of the two, but ideally they should be pretty close anyway.

Okay Ant although with your form and speed at the mo I think I'll definitely need to be using full aero kit.

I wish, lost so much form over the last 5 weeks from hardly riding plus I won't have a lot to shelter behind if you go full aero :D It'll be fun though, I'll give it full beans and push you along if you slow down too much :D

Hi,

I'd be up for doing a GPDG (I'm of required age to be towed although perhaps not a Gent! )

I did it last year but didn't know the rules and kept going past the 'towing person' :!:

What would be the optimal difference in ability (PBs) between the person towing and the one being towed? I'd reckon on doing a 23-24m on the G10/42 at the moment (I'll know next Tuesday), I did a short 29 on the Bletchingly course last week.

I don't have a TT bike, just a road bike with tri-bars, but I don't think that would matter behind someone??? :?:

cheers,

Huw

Good question. Don't really know the answer but the faster the better as they can regulate their speed more. Probably want i.r.o. 2 minutes quicker ideally as you can tuck in, that said in theory the tower may go quicker than they normally do with the added incentive of you shouting "faster" at them.
